Crepe Myrtles supposedly only bloom on new wood so if you don't trim, you will have a very green tree with less blooms.

Wiseowl : That has not been our experience. Yes we trim but the ones in the medians along WLHP and around the general KW/H/A area are rarely if ever trimmed, and they are huge and lush every year.

I don't trim mine because they are huge and they always bloom.

ZMAN :
They sprout so fast. It is surprising how fast they grow from pruning to the end of summer.

Professionals/master gardeners all agree that decapitating Crape Myrtles is Crape Murder! It creates ugly, knobby "knuckles" and weak spindly tops. They are so ugly after being chopped. Proper pruning allows the trees to grow and create gorgeous bark. I drive around this time of year and could just cry. Your yardmen may not know any better; do a little research.

Some of my Crape Myrtles were planted too close to the house and I've been trying, unsuccessfully, to murder them. Cut them off at ground level and they come back. Please advise...
