Click 2 Houston ran the story and said she was a Porter woman. I wonder if she lives in the part of Kingwood that is in Porter. Either way, I am sure there was plenty of fraud during Harvey just like there was during the pandemic. There are always lowlifes that take advantage of the help offered to those that truly need it. I hope they track down every one of them!

eighteen : He was right to be mad, but he was mad for the wrong reasons. He repeatedly asserted the issue in a manner that made it seem as if it was racial bias. The program itself was flawed. It wasn't replacing homes to the size they were when they flooded, but based on how many people were in the household. So someone who had owned a 5 bedroom home for 20-30 years, had it paid off and raised their family in it, but was now retired or widowed would only qualify for either a 1 or 2 bedroom, 1 bath, MUCH smaller home. And someone with a 2 br home with 3 kids, would automatically get at least a 3 or 4 bedroom home. No one should have gotten more than what they had. And they should not have used FEMA qualifications to even apply. But the process itself was extremely long, and complicated, and probably did prevent most fraud, certainly more than FEMA itself does, but it was borderline a social justice welfare program. ***I helped a dear friend and neighbor with the crazy amount of paperwork, ultimately she had a massive heart attack weeks before before she slated to finally start her house, in big part due to the stress of the floods and the trouble getting help and also due conditions she was forced to live in until it was torn down so the new one could be built. She'd have been 1st on the list if it weren't for the fraud, and she had already paid GLO 54,000 towards the new build despite being on a fixed income, as she was both retired and disabled. Whereas no funds were paid to GLO for the 7 bedroom.

Newvahner : Where did your friend live? I didn't follow the story. I only read what the fraudster posted and viewed it as an issue of rich vs poor.

You had to have a total household income of less than 55k a year on the top end, including child support, so with the exception of fraud, everyone who qualified was poor.
