mutton : I like Corpus, but there are so many man o war this year, it is about a 3.5 hour drive ( Gotta stop at Buccees!) If you go out to Pirates', it is clean and there are a few good spots to eat and a beach bar, too. We stay out there, when not at the fishing cabin in Matagorda.

SpaceCat : Bacteria counts always need be checked, even in clear waters.

SpaceCat : We go to Crystal Beach a few time a year. The beach is always clean and I check the bacteria levels to make sure they are good. I think you need to do that anytime you go to the beach wherever you are going. The last time we were at Crystal Beach the water was extremely clear and we could see our feet in water that was up to our waits. It is not always that way! If it were closer I would go to Corpus Christi and go to South Padre Island or the National Sea Shore.
