Sisyphus : I can tell you from extensive direct first hand experience with being in Portland, Seattle and San Francisco - morning is best and safest because the junkies, drunks, lunatics and all the rest of that group are all still sleeping it off from the night before. These three cities used to be far and away my favorite overnight destinations when I was working. By the time I retired, I avoided all three at all costs. All three cities have been destroyed by horrendous policy making priorities and decision making by the governments that (allegedly) run them. They have all been turned into zombie infected apocalyptic like wastelands. It's heartbreaking to see what has happened to all three once beautiful and vibrant cities.* This is a General chat discussion. Ticagro : Gee, is that not a tad hyperbolic? I have worked in all 3, have business, family and friends in all 3. A sort of post-apocalyptic existence is what you describe. I do not get that vibe from any of my contacts. Like any urban center in the world, cities attract people that need. There services. Consider this scenario, you have manageable medical conditions, most us do, but that you are homeless. Where do you goi thinking that perhaps get assistance and care? A city with agencies, churches. NGOs. Those are scarce in suburban, ex-urban and rural areas,

Sisyphus : Hyperbolic? Hardly. It's the raw, unadulterated truth. People walking around stupefied, in a daze, staggering. Vomiting, defecating and urinating on the streets is very common. Constant and never ceasing belligerent, aggressive and threatening panhandling. Maniacal behavior, lunatics having violent arguments with themselves or non existent adversaries. Used needles and drug paraphernalia laying discarded everywhere you look. Particularly in the case of Portland, there are ceaseless violent and destructive "peaceful" protests. I could go on, but you get the point. You may not agree with the point and you may prefer to deflect from the point, labeling it "hyperbolic", but the truth is not always convenient. And regarding the "snapshot" reference, I'm probably well over 100 nights spent in each of the above cities over the years.
