J Christopher's reviewI had lunch here with a friend the other day . I wanted to leave a review of my meal since we had a pretty lengthy review left by another member recently that was very negative(especially in regard to a take out lasagna). I thought I would weigh in with my experience.
First of all, given today's prices lunch is a bargain. I think most lunch entrees are around $13 which includes a salad and drink. There is also a coupon on KDC for $5 off a $35 tab. That's pretty much fast food prices !
The salad was very good with croutons and a mix of lettuce and tomatoes. They serve it with garlic focaccia bread (it was so good that we asked for more with meal).
My friend ordered the lunch size deep dish pizza that comes with 2 toppings. She said it was delicious.
I ordered the lasagna mainly to see what the fuss was about in the last review.
First off , the lasagna was served in its own gratin dish and was a very generous serving.
It is prepared with both béchamel and bolognese ragu sauce. It is covered in melted cheese. It was delicious!
As far as the gray mystery meat situation that was the cause for the negative review in another thread I think I can clear that up.
Yes, the meat is flat and gray-ish. It was also very good! It's mild Italian sausage as opposed to ground beef sliced in longish lengths rather than rounds. It's not ground, it's sliced. It's not brown like ground meat would be. I hope they don't change it! It is much tastier IMO than ground beef.
I hate to see a longtime local restaurant get bashed due to a misunderstanding. We have enough franchises .
Not only is J Christopher's locally owned, they are also a KDC sponsor and the owners resurrected it from the previous owners failing attempt to make it.
Our meal was excellent. Is it comparable to fine Italian dining ? No and it doesn't pretend to be. You also couldn't have a $13 lunch at a white table cloth place.
Is it a great place to meet friends and bring family to? Absolutely. Order the lasagna!
