Dear Kingwood,

Dear Kingwood,This was our first year here, and what a welcome it's been. We've noticed a lot about this community in a short time, and it was all on full display at the Fourth of July celebration. From the moment we arrived at Town Center, we could feel the heart of Kingwood. Families gathering, kids laughing, people lending a hand, and businesses showing up excellently reminded us of something we haven't felt in a long time: a community that genuinely cares.We were blown away by the atmosphere. The vendor booths were diverse and full of life. The food was incredible (people are still talking about the quesadillas and Korean fries), I can't believe I missed the bull riding! You better believe I would have hoped right on! Even just walking around, it felt like people were present, both in body and spirit. There's something rare about that, and Kingwood seems to have it.While the fireworks let us down-and we know many others were too-we don't want that to overshadow everything we witnessed. Because what truly stood out wasn't a display in the sky. It was the way people showed up for one another. It was the volunteers giving their time, the families making memories, the small business owners bringing their best, and the smiles exchanged between neighbors.That's something no fireworks vendor could ever provide.As someone who has served our country in the military and previously served in law enforcement-now retired-I've been to many places and have seen and experienced many things. I've walked through deserts, stood in concrete cities, faced down anger, hostility, hatred, and even persecution. And yet, as terrible as the fireworks display may have been, I lifted up a prayer that night filled with gratitude and thankfulness for you and this community. You are a well-kept secret in this city and state that I dearly love.As for whoever handled the fireworks portion, let me be clear: you, Kingwood, deserve nothing less than the incredible love, hospitality, and generosity you already give. My prayer, encouragement, and hope are that you only prosper more. I would love to see more from our churches rise, show up, and be even more involved in the heartbeat of this community.Thank you, Kingwood, for reminding us of the beauty of belonging.With gratitude,
