Abandoned houses

Could be it's tied up in probate. My dad passed Feb 2024 and social security is dragging its feet getting the paperwork to the Estate's executor. He lives in Illinois. It's supposed to be mailed to me since this was his last address and they would say "it will be mailed this week" then, "we haven't mailed it out yet because we are waiting on a provisional change", to it "was mailed 2 weeks ago". We haven't received it. The latest, "we'll mail form to Executor but you'll have to file in person since it didn't go to the last know address. You can make an appointment when you get the form, but as of now, we have nothing available until August." We can't do anything until SS paperwork is finalized. If the property owner did pass, then they may be dealing with same issues.

I walk by one in Bear Branch every morning that has been empty since pre-Harvey. I was told the owner lives in California but for some reason doesn't want to sell. Every now and then the city posts a notice in the front yard and at least the yard gets mowed, but most of the time it's a total eyesore. I can't imagine how angry the neighbors on either side are since it affects their property value.

Donnawisdom : I have the same concern - not only does it look bad, it affects property values in the neighborhood. In my little section of BBV, there are several homes that are not being taken care of. There are also quite a few homes that have neglected yards (out of control weeds in the yards/flower beds), mold/mildew on the house, damaged/diseased trees that will surely cause damage during a storm, etc.

prob foreclosures, now banked owned , and they could care less about being a 'good neighbors'. I had one of the next door for a year, in KW. lawn unkempt, mice and insects everywhere, and coming to my property, too. A dead tree in their yard, that was thisclose to falling into my kitchen window. What a nightmare! Called the bank SO many times. Finally, someone bought it, and moved in, TG.

Investors and private owners are buying up homes in KW and flipping, renting and also turning them to Section 8's.

Over here in our section of Oakhurst there is an abandoned house. The older couple that lived there both passed FOUR YEARS AGO and the house has sat untouched ever since. Each of their 4 kids has an equal share of the house and they can't agree ok what to do with it so it just sits.

Today : at one point in time I was told one of the kids wanted to move into the house so he was absolutely refusing to agree to sell it, nor would he allow his siblings to buy him out and then sell it.Of course he couldn't afford to buy all of them out and keep it either...And then the last I heard a couple of years ago was there was talk of turning it into a rental property but apparently that didn't work out either. I will give them credit for having the yard maintained even though you can clearly tell it's sitting empty.

Hey send me addresses of those empty houses if you guys see one so maybe I can bring it back to life and flip em! Ty

We have one of those in our neighborhood (flooded in Harvey) and the neighbor across the street said ironically the yard is mowed most of the time but there are two white trucks parked on the circle driveway that are never moved and the original owners live in another subdivision nearby and bring their trash to this abandoned property for pickup for which they apparently pay. This neighbor said there is a nice swimming pool in the home and it is a health hazard since no clean up inside the house was done after Harvey (unbelievable) and someone called the county health department on them and the health department said they will look into it.
