cbear : I wouldn't see why this wouldn't be as peaceful as the other protests that have happened here (Kingwood) in the past. It looks like this event is happening in a lot of other places on the same date, too.

Um, protests have had significant impacts on our lives. The Boston Tea Party and American Revolution, Women's Suffrage, Civil Rights... Just to name a few minor things.
PatrickStar : olemiss1968 : I'm not saying you are wrong, but the Boston Tea Party wasn't an organized march kind of thing. Certainly women's suffrage and the civil rights movement did have their share of organized activities. But, I don't feel as though the marches themselves made a difference as much as politicians seeing the benefits or moral obligations did, prompting legislation to be passed. Chicken or egg I suppose.

Being 4th generation out of Mississippi, I can tell you from the Freedom Riders and Schools protests and demonstrations at the University of Mississippi where I am proud to say my mother was a participate, changes were made as a result.

MissAmericanPie : I will agree that this one in LA does not warrant the violence. I understand those who disagree with the process of ICE and demonstrations would be appropropriate but not this.
All groups will be required to possess a permit to assemble.

olemiss1968 : I totally agree that back in the day, when there was no technology, marches made a statement to local leaders that they better get ahead of the issue. Today, smartphones with polls or texts could take care of it, and no one has to pass out from heat exhaustion on Kingwood drive.
