Wow! In November/December (didn't take them all at once) I took 8 porch kitties to Texas Litter control, all got Rabies shot, nails clipped and an up charge for one of the males, all got fixed (3 females and 5 males) and was less than $1000.

WOW!!!!! It cost me about One Thousand Dollars to have NORTHPARK ANIMAL HOSPITAL SPAY A six pound Chihuahua…..not to mention the EIGHT HUNDRED SIXTY EIGHT DOLLAR visit four days earlier for the bloodwork and X-rays, a rabies shot and a tiny bottle of pain meds. Sad that care for our companion animals is getting so high in this area.

Doddlebug50 : That is ridiculous. You should have taken the baby to Texas litter control. They do so many and they are so good at it. And their prices beat everybody.

There are numerous other places in the area that are cheaper. Sounds like someone needs to do some better due diligence in the future.

Doddlebug50 : So, you had to pay a total of $1,860 to have her fixed. That is awful! I hope she is doing good.

I haven't had a pet in a number of years but those prices are ridiculous. They would discourage pet ownership.

Kittle :
I have decided that the cats I have now are my last pets. Due to our age when you add the life of a cat to my age I can't have any more. I don't think my daughter want to take my cats when we are gone.

Donnawisdom :
That is a very thoughtful decision. Too many pets are basically homeless after the death of their owners.

We had both cats and dogs when I was a child. As a working adult spending hours away from home, I had cats and litter boxes. lol. I miss having a purring baby in my lap.

Kittle :
But when these cats are gone I will be sad. But I really would hate it if they were ever homeless. Cats live a very long time if they are inside cats. I would say they live about 15 to 20 years.

Kittle : The high prices and expectations that owners will care for their pets like they would a human, with no limits (chemo, ER visits, etc). We've lost the ability to distinguish between an animal and a child. Or we are simply too affluent.
