Do you honestly believe that cops can prove probable cause for every person they pull over on New Years Eve? Really? Try asking black people in the south about what they think about cops altruism when it comes to pulling people over.

If what you were saying were true, then why the need for no refusal?? Its because they are trying to expedite the process of busting people. Its plain and simple - there is no other reason. By taking this step they are saying their procedures in the name of public safety are more important than our rights.

Instead of Roadblocks, maybe call them Checkpoints, what a great idea, Kingwood, Northpark, and WLH Bridge They would surprise many with no way to turn around and then arrest with a expensive tow and free rides downtown to the Harris County Hotel to begin 2024.

Texasdad: They do call them checkpoints in states where they are legal. In Oklahoma they have to publish the times and locations prior. Texas has ruled them unconstitutional.

A cop can find any probable cause to pull you over. Took that corner a little wide sir. Got an air freshener hanging from the rear view? They can pull you over if they want to.

How do y'all feel about technology in cars that can alert to a driver being inebriated? Thats a whole new can of worms.

Don't get me wrong on this. I'm not against LEOs or in favor of drunk driving. Cops are put in a terrible position. What I am against is government's constant encroachment on civil rights.

Maver1ck :
That all depends on which constitutional rights one is willing to forfeit for a privilege they desire.
Let's take marijuana.
A new green industry. Some states have made it available for medical, recreational, some absolutely won't budge no matter what the voters want so they do it anyway. Many people gave up many rights such as gun rights, the use of certain opiates including when having surgical procedures, all for medical use.
In Pennsylvania you sign your gun rights away for medical. Not something I'd ever do, but people not into guns or on the fear side of guns don't have a need because they'd never own one. That is until they needed one. But oops you got a medical marijuana card, you signed that right away.
The states not allowing either, want a money grab that wrecks lives. Surely they don't see the millions going over state lines. Do they think their citizens don't do green travel? They'll show them by fining them $100. Lol
We have had more rights taken from us just since 9/11 then any other time. People thinking it's for security are gonna get a shock. Every right you give up, the easier it is for them to take another, and another.
Freedoms and privilege are not completely different. You are free to do as I say until I say you aren't.
A privilege is something you are allowed to do by giving something in return for that privilege. That is until they feel you are no longer entitled to that privilege.
Freedom isn't free, you are not free to do as you choose, live as you like, or do anything you choose to your body. You are only as free as you are undetected. Lol
It's not against the law, against the law if you don't get caught.

But isn't mandating that a person with previous DUIs test for driving a car profiling? If I am not mistaken, we were told that profiling was bad when we used it to scrutinize Muslims getting on airplanes.

This is the problem with government and their interpretation of laws and legality. When they want to do it, profiling is great. When they don't want to do it profiling is bad. You can never know the right and wrong of an issue when interpretation is left up to wishy washy wing nuts. Laws either have to apply to everyone all the time or they are worthless. They cannot and should not be subject to the whims of political interpretation.
