Quixote : Excellent comments and I agree, told my son 10 maybe 20 years lets face it they going area to area till it's a death trap like Greenspoint, Beltway 8 and I45 north, 59 Eastex freeway, then they took over Spring and Humble. Atascocita is next, Champions the other way then next victims would be Kingwood and turns into Kinghood. probably by 2035 2040 Police will all be like Detroit and be like, Military Infantry with all the gear. Helmets, body armor, rifles.

Texasdad : Greenspoint has been like it is today since the 80's. Same for the Beltway and 45. The concentration of apartments, and access to freeways are big drivers. Areas with large homes tend to stay nicer, just like parts of Houston that never went full riff-raff.

buffaloglenn : I agree , but Kingwood is becoming surround by apartments and freeways

Texasdad : The only new freeway in the last 40 years is 99 to the north, and fairly well to the north. Most of the new apartment construction is right on 59.

I agree, that over time, the area will decline, but it is going to take a lot longer than people think. Good schools help neighborhoods stay good, and we've got them.

Ruger5 : The reality about the whole "other countries giving their citizens travel warnings" has to do with gun violence. Every country has gang violence to some degree, but here in the Good Ole it's gun violence that is the difference. And I'm a gun owner, with a pro-gun rights general view. But I don't stick my head in the sand and pretend our lack of personal responsibility doesn't largely affect the amount of gun violence we see here. Off the soapbox now...

buffaloglenn : As per the gun violence - all the more reason to be encouraging law, abiding citizens to arm themselves. We are now a thug nation, make no mistake about that. And it has everything to do with the bad guys versus the good guys.

Only a good guy with a gun can stop a bad guy with a gun.

Ruger5 :
Daughter lives in Eagle Springs. She was telling the story of 3 16 year olds that did not live there trying to steal a car. Cops were called one kid shot the cop in the hand and other cop shot the kid. He was in hospital with some serious wounds.
Other 2 kids ran all over Eagle springs jumping fences from one back yard to another. I don't think they ever caught those two. They were reported to look like thugs. Eagle springs is a nice place to live. So crime is abound.

As a road wanderer I've met many and yes the advisories are there. Major talks about the gun crazed Americans. Safety is the number one concern. Especially foreign travel for anyone. I used to dream of uninhibited world travel. I then grew up and no longer desire to go certain places.
Drive around America enough, hell just drive through Texas small towns. You will see dilapidated buildings crumbling in on themselves. Not a business in town to employee people or grow a community. Small communities are disappearing and urban cities are longer shiny places.
When we went past Los Angeles I could have pulled off to play. I told my dh, cities are much prettier at night with the lights because by day they are just the light of filthy truth about humans. I drove on by.
And to think my grandmother was 14 when she came from Sicily and was so proud to be an American. She traveled to worlds fairs and I heard so many stories. We don't even have such a celebration of all anymore.

Donnawisdom : How many shootings have we had in a Kingwood past few years? Break ins, bank juggings, theft……easy on crime leadership - nothing for the bad guys to fear.

>> sweetie : Third world *******. When other countries warn their citizens to beware coming to the US this tells me we are being viewed as such by the world. The descent into below average has begun.

Well said, it's all about personal responsibility. And especially owners keeping them out of the hands of minors.....amen
