Happyface : I know. And that is very expensive. I took my sweet gums out as soon as I moved in. They just had to go.

Asking so I don't have to look it up, did COH ban new water wells?

Pickett11 : Of course they did!

CantStandTex : more concrete is the last thing we need. I do hate losing all these trees though. Back during the last heatwave in 2011 we lost over one thousand trees. Heart breaking. Sadly many of the trees we planted to replace the lost trees are now dying 😩. I wonder if plants experience pain?

Ruger5 : I think plants do experience pain. Did you know trees will make a perfectly good limb fall off to conserve energy for the rest of the tree? They are smarter than we think.

Ruger5 : Your question reminded me of the animated movie Fern Gully. Have you seen it? It's been years since I have but it's about trees being cut down and the pain they feel.

Ruger5 : Yes and it will take years to repair. I am really hoping we get rain next week. The models are the most suggestive that I've seen in quite a while, but it's going to take more than a couple of inches to do anything. (Doesn't it always) 😜 Today is day 10 above 100-degrees. Next possible rain chance is next Tuesday at 40% right now.

StormChaser : 40%? Awesome! We could sure use it! The trees are in such distress

I remember when we had one of these droughts a few (10ish?) years ago and lost so many. Hate to see it again. I'm almost certain one of my 30+ year old hedges in front of my house is done for and it's gonna leave a nasty gap. The afternoon sun is just slaughtering our west facing front yard.

MGBguy : We have been pretty lucky in how our house is situated. Everything is surviving but we water 3x's a week. The portion of grass most exposed is suffering from cooking in the relentless heat a little, but trees doing well.

Kingwood is losing a lot of beautiful trees. Leaves are dropping like snow From lack of water and heat stress. Very sad.

Ruger5 : We're good. Got a billion trees or so. This area has easily survived droughts for much longer than we've been here.

buffaloglenn : I agree……but for our little community trees are our calling card. The biggest danger to our trees is man's need for urban sprawl. In '11 we lost over 1k trees, we've since lost countless thousands to apartment complexes alone. We don't have an endless supply of them left. And now we stand to lose how many more to weather? 😩. fluctuations are nothing new. Just the earth adjusting it's thermostat. It fluctuated back before humans ever walked the earth……good to know we can blame the ice age on the dinosaurs and not man. 😁. Speaking of trees……I see nothing has been done on removing those diseased trees along Kingwood Dr. Still there. These are not privately owned trees on personal property- these are kingwood dr. Trees. I heard that was a contagious disease- confused why they are still there.

Ruger5 : It's dirt brown dry all over Texas. I feel sorry for the wild animals. I know they are suffering.

Jonn : Oh me too! Me too! I am terrified it's killing birds. Our property enjoys a TON of birds……of late I see very few. Truly concerning. We have a huge water fountain that always attracts birds……..not a bird to be seen near it. 😩
