Cafe du Bois did an Amazon local offer a while back which was a really good deal.  Then before all the takers had a chance to use the offer, the restaurant retracted it.  Food is/was delicious, service good, but apparently marketing efforts not so much. 4951

A few other places to recommend for great French food - Cafe Rabelais in Rice Village and Le Mistral off of Eldridge and I10west.

Bistro Provence has a casual menu but all of the previously mentioned places are better. 4951

I really don't need a lecture as to why YOU are closing. It's YOUR business, YOUR marketing responsibility and YOUR customers to please and retain. 4951

Also remember that Cafe Du Bois changed hands several months ago....

New management caused me to not return. It changed and not for the better. I liked it better when Tony and his crew were running it. 4951

1meow2meow: That might be the real issue. Nice, blame the customers when a newbie owner can't keep up the quality and tradition. I'm even less sympathetic now. 4951

You missed the important part of the announcement...drink specials to get rid of inventory. 4951

The "notice" seems a bit more like a lecture on how the community didn't support them, so as punishment, they are reducing hours, and taking away brunch until they close. We really didn't need a snooty novella about it all. A simple "unfortunately we have decided to close, effective April 15. Thank you for 14 wonderful years."

As far as intense marketing, I saw an occasional ad, and that's about it. Did they really reach out to the community, say they way Rigo's or So Chocolate has done? Did they interact with people here?

I don't read it that way at all. More like, while we're open until April 1, come soon bc we're not buying any more food and we're using up inventory until it's gone.

Sad - I used a restaurant.com certificate there for lunch and had a lovely meal. (Gift certificate was $5 for $20 worth.) I agree, too, with elguapo, though, I didn't see any intense marketing. Which would be part of the problem. (And how do you not have a sous chef for Valentine's Day - especially when it falls on a Saturday. That's hitting the motherload! 4951

I honestly don't know what happened but from what I understand, Tony separated himself from the business completely.

I had great monthly lunches there but each I time I went with my husband for dinner, we were both disappointed.

While Cafe Du Bois wasn't at the top on my list, I know it's a place with many memories for friends over their years there.

They are also a huge supporter of the art community and allow artists to hang their art there.

I'm sorry the new owner couldn't make it work.

We will have a limited menu, but many selections from the current dinner menu will be available until current inventory is depleted. Yum, nothing says fresh food like depleting inventory. 4951

Honestly when a restaurant starts using groupon and amazon local to drum up business that is never a good sign. A restaurant needs M-Th business to stay open but the groupon deals usually just end up being used on fridays and saturdays which does the exact opposite of the intent. It reduces profit not improve sales.

They are right they needed return business and most people in this area didnt see them as a weekday place. We are a fickle group and statistics show a preference for chain places.

Stealth83: Most Groupons I have found, though, can't be used on weekends.

Why would anyone make a reservation.  The restaurant management already showed they might close at a moment's notice.  Don't depend on that reservation in your plans. 4951
