It isn't. I was just rambling and never got to my point about growing up here. It was bad to ride back then, but worse now. I wouldn't let my kids cycle these days. Too many horror stories. It just stinks cause all everyone needs is patience on the roads. 4951

OK, since I am now famous on here, and throughout Kingwood I guess- I will leave you with this, because, frankly, I have a life, a business, and no time or patience for this childish, inane nonsense (even though I have enjoyed many chuckles from the remarks).My name is Jennifer; you all know what I look like and where I am, obviously.-If you are law enforcement and see me doing something illegal, by all means, stop me (just as the officer did yesterday at the stop light on WLHP- but only to tell me that I was in the right, and let me know about this crazy post).- If I have buzzed you on my bike because you are in the middle of the path, have earbuds in, are on your phone, taking up the whole path with your dogs, a team of runners, or a cluster of people- pay attention to the very distinguishable bicycle bell that I RING.-If you have been sitting in the pickup line for 45 minutes prior to school letting out, and you see me whiz by you at 5 minutes till and leave at 1 minute after- ****, you are just jealous.- Yea, I grew up in the 70's, in the country, not wearing helmets or seat belts, so no, I'm not a fragile-minded or fragile-bodied millennial that is ever going to wear one- if you get off your phones in a school zone (which is a $200 fine), you would see me and my very legal bike trailer, and I wouldn't need to wear one out of fear that a careless driver will hit me.- I am a 23-year resident of Kingwood, drive a Cadillac, and own my home outright- this isn't because of finances...it is freedom of choice.NOW, if any of you have a set of these, get out from behind the anonymity of your little computer and approach me with any VALID points.  (You won't change my mind with your personal beliefs and I won't try to change yours- what you do is your own business.-If you choose to make threats of hitting me or my child, or want to start something, be advised-not only could I probably bench press you, but I have an LTC, and my son's father is a Sheriff's Deputy- bring it...- If you are some of the cool cats on here that support me, feel free to give me a "rock-on" fist up as I pass...if you're not, feel free to flip me the bird... at least you have a set of balls!Now, go find some politics or religion to argue about.Peace out! 4951

I would rather have a bicycle than the SUVs that come speeding down my street before and after school.I back up to an elementary school, and there is a greenbelt entrance right behind it, so people drop their kids off there and it's about a hundred or so yard walk to the back of the school.  The problem is these SUVs come speeding down that street that is not a school zone, but tons of neighborhood kids are biking and walking to school there as well.  Really surprised there hasn't been an accident there either.  I have to be very careful just pulling out of my driveway.   4951

@Puss In Boots: I agree that it is her business. I agree that cars and bikes need to share share the road.... what she is not comprehending is that she darts out in front of cars on the road and doesn't give two hoots about it. It's dangerous to her and her child and it's dangerous to us drivers who are trying to navigate through that hellish time. She does NOT wait in the car line - she darts in alongside the cars already in line and basically "cuts" in front of everyone.What she fails to understand is that there is a bike trail that leads to the school parking lot and that kids on their bikes need to use that route to approach the school safely - and, as a cyclist, she should be following that rule as well. 4951

I liked your first line!Listen I don't have a dog in this hunt. However, I do believe she is freely entitled to choose her path to and from the school as her choice of vehicle is legal. As far as her darting in and out--can't speak to that. But how is that different from cars darting in and out? Some of the most reckless drivers are the moms that have already dropped their kids off and are hurriedly speeding through the speed zone, blissfully ignoring the blinking yellow school zone signs. 4951

Wow just wow! I got emo over princecharming’s post and took a KDC break-lol but couldn’t stay away ( esp after the motorcycle incident earlier this week)So here’s my take ( like anyone cares). I am one of those of the spandex wearing crowd and I have a hybrid for the trails. I have read all the laws as they apply to cyclists in TX and I follow all of those laws just as I do when driving.Jennifer- that’s fine don’t wear a helmet but if you get into an accident and get a concussion what happens to your kids? I’ve fallen in gravel going less than 8 mph and my helmet saved me from a frontal lobe injury.
I also know of a family here in KW whose son was in a skateboard accident- he was not wearing a helmet and now receives around the clock care. The family are huge proponents of helmet use. As I said your choice- but think about what happens at the scene when you are unconscious and your kids are with you. A friend of mine fell and hit his head and wandered 2 miles before he knocked on a door and got help. Concussions do funky things.I can also see why some people are upset with the irratic riding. The cyclists must follow the same laws as vehicles. They can’t just pull out of a driveway or run stop signs. And it doesn’t help with making drivers more sympathetic towards us cyclists. I try to promote cycling in a safe manner. Drivers should share the road and have patience when coming upon cyclists BUT we cyclists do NOT have the right to own the road and be buttheads.. the roads in KW are big enough for both drivers and cyclists ( well maybe not KW Dr NP or WLH) and we should all follow the laws.So I applaud you for using your bike but not the attitude. Trust me - words like you’ve said make it harder on the rest of us. And quite frankly I’ve had enough soda, food and beer thrown at me to last a life time. I also think that the mother should be wearing a helmet for her own protection and this will encourage the child to wear a helmet when he or she is old enough to ride a bicycle.  I had a neighbor who got hit by a bus and he had brain damage. It makes sense to wear a helmet. 4951
