What is most most you are willing to pay for electric power and water? Is there a absolute limit that you will pay. Say 1000 a month each with massive profits to Centerpoint and COH water.

What is your solution? Both electricity and water are essentials and unreasonably priced.

I don't think it's about " willingly ", because I don't know about you, but we HAVE to pay the statement every single month .
I know some people shop around, and maybe find something " cheaper ", but we don't do that.

Texasdad : Those panels cost like $40k? Thats a lot of years of power. Its the AC in the summer that drains us. Im thinking free standing AC right in my living room lol

MissAmericanPie : My son has the whole Tesla system, outstanding, no power bill as he generates more power then he needs even after the battery backup is fully charged and ready to go. He has 32k in it and the power he does not use sends it back to the grid for a profit. He thinks it will all pay for itself in no time. They also Installed a new breaker box to accommodate everything and a Tesla charger for his car. So dosen't buy gasoline either and charged up for free. No payments. 30 somethings seem to be very smart.

Texasdad : That would take at least 10 years to pay out for a $32k solar system, and doesn't take into account cost to clean the panels, replace batteries, etc. it could still be beneficial, but that is a long term payout and a bit of a gamble.

Texasdad : No massive profits for Centerpoint - they are a utility with typical utility margins. EPS $1.69/share last year, decent yields at 2.5%.

I always wondered if you have to have a crew from solar company come out to remove panels for roofing replacement and then come out to reinstall? If so, extra cost for that?

Yes it's up to you to schedule the solar company to remove and reinstall them. Yes you pay.
I looked into solar heating of our pool. I two story house sat at the wrong angle. They'd have to run the black tube around the block wall. The water would go through the black tube, heat and back in the pool. Even that was not cheap.
As we look to buy a house here many have solar. Some owned (still have to pay company), some leased and transfers to new homeowners. We don't know enough about them to take that on.
As for car charging, I'd assume they have to up your circuit breakers to handle the load.
My sil allowed a room renter to put one on her house (which I thought was stupid) using some one off guy. I asked her if it was inspected? No she replied. I then asked her about her insurance company, did they know she allowed a bootleg hookup? If her house catches fire, they may deny the claim.
I sold pella windows years ago. They too take 10 years to see the savings.
Our electricity at the high was $500 two months ago. Last month, $450 (expected $650). This month $250 for a 2800 square foot, no pool at this place.

Not about the profits.
centerpoint executive pay
CenterPoint Energy's executive compensation has seen significant increases in recent years, with the CEO's pay reaching approximately $37.8 million in 2022, which is notably higher than that of peers in the industry.

beadweaver : When we looked to buy I never even looked at houses with the solar panels. I am not knowledgeable enough to consider buying one with them.
