Always used kingwood high school parking lot

Look on YouTube for a dashcam video of the road course the DPS uses at the office you sign up for their drivers test at. Go on a Sunday and drive the course and let them parallel park using the DMV's setup and get comfortable with it.There is a video for the Mega Center on I45 for sure, my twins watched and drove it on a Sunday five years ago before their tests. Followed the exact route from the video.

Also, the area around Lonestar College and roads behind the hospital, although recently it has become more congested.

We used the Humble ISD building on Magnolia Cove. After hours and weekends, there is no one there. Start, stop, turns, backing up, etc. Seemed like there was always something going on at the high school and some other kids were cutting across lanes when our kids were practicing. I liked this lot better.

The mall on Sunday morning. Great turning and curb practice. Good stop start and parking 😀 good luck!!
You can also practice parallel parking behind the DMV on will Clayton. The area they test in is available for practice late evenings and weekends.
Sunday morning are also good for getting on and off the freeway. Good time to learn how to use blinkers amd merge / change lanes.

There is also that small parking area near Avery Jewelers. Blocked in on 3 sides with only one access point off of Lake Houston Parkway. No through traffic to worry about.

Congrats to your Grandson on his learner's permit, he is halfway there! We practiced parking at the high schools- KW HS and KPark, drove around the neighborhood to practice with stop signs, and started out with some light driving crossing KW Drive and Northpark for practice with stop lights. Eventually taking him on to 59 to practice highway driving when traffic was light, most early evening and night time. Another great parking lot to practice in was at Lone Star College on Sorters. The crucial thing to practice will be parallel parking. I took our son to the Mega Center in Spring for his driving test, and was told that if he didn't pass that (which they did first) he wouldn't be able to continue with the test, and it would be an automatic fail. Your grandson can practice that at the DMV where they plan to take him when he's ready for his driving test, but there are a few places in KW that also have good spots to practice that type of parking. I'm very familiar with all of this because my son got his driver's license over the summer, and we went through a parent taught program. Good Luck to him and his Mom!

I have to laugh because when I took my son I chose a parking spot at KHS and told him "OK, the parking lot is full. I need you to park in that space right there without touching any of the other spots."
Ok, I can do that.
He then proceeds to swing so wide he would have taken out 4 cars in the next row!
" How did I do?"
"Well the owners of the 4 cars you took out aren't going to be happy with you but the good news is you missed the cars on either side of you!"

those are good roads back that way, especially about 10 am on weekends. not many on the road, and it helps a driver watch for cars entering the main road from side streets, and to regulate speeds due to road condition or curves. Did self teaching course; it was good time to spend together, and to explain some of the nuances and pitfalls of driving.
