Eat Like A Local ch 2: Chris Shepherd How far will you drive for a good meal? I love this program. He has just ended his run after three years but luckily it is on at 10 AM on channel 2 on Saturdays. I love how he takes his friends with him to eat, and they all have different taste and give their opinions about the food; all local. on this episode they went to a place called Southern Yankee Crafthouse and Hong Kong Street Food. LittleTexas : I like his show too, and he has a great personality. I'm disappointed to hear that his show won't be on much longer, but I guess it had a good run. I saw one last week where he visited local BBQ places, and he went to Corkscrew out in Spring. I have been there once or twice, and the BBQ is delicious, but the line was literally out the door and in around the bldg. I'd like to go and try some of the places he has visited, but I don't often drive in to the city of Houston these days.
Annie : When I grew up, we would drive near Beaumont for bbq'd crabs at Sartins . It was a good 45 minutes over and back, but so worth it!

LittleTexas : Does it still exist? I'll be in Beaumont having lunch with a friend's friend later in the summer.
Annie : Yes, they used to be in Houston proper, but when their son took over the business, he built a new spot and moved to Katy. It looks delicious!! The other spot is a bar in Houston; not hard to get to, and they validate parking in a certain spot, an easy walk away. Lots of good dishes there, too! Houston has a lot of great, diverse places to enjoy a good meal.

Annie : No, sadly, they closed, but there is a great spot in Bevil, TX, a quick drive from Beaumont, called Vautrot's Cajun Cuisine. Get some gumbo to bring home, for later, too! 15-20 min drive, 12 miles from Beaumont

Annie : sorry, I thought you meant Hong Kong Food Street, from my post. I Wish Sartin's was still open. See above, I posted info on another great place, close to Beaumont, that is really good.

GiggleMugs : I used to cook a lot, but now mostly only do it when I am on my eating plan. I still love to cook for/with family, for the holidays.
