I don't get why people protest ? Okay don't start yelling at me

When so many of the news organizations fail to present both sides, public individual protests are one way to try to get information out publicly.
Think back over history: women's rights, civil rights & integration, Vietnam... Public protests are one attempt to influence and improve support.
Today's headline on the Chronicle's front page was an example: people had been registered to speak on whatever issue they wanted to address and instead of allowing them to do so, the meeting was halted more than 3 hours earlier than normal. So the photo was showing two individuals who were shouting "Let us speak". Perhaps they will be back before the next city council meeting protesting on the street?

It gains attention when issues are being ignored. As for making an immediate difference it's always had mixed results but, it does start people asking questions and looking into things. Every protest that happens in Kingwood for example gets at least a thread or two on here. That's people talking. Even if it's just to complain or ask the question of why.

When someone is wronged enough to want to spend their time demanding change then they get my respect. I am sure some of them are "paid" because guess what? You can take a day off from work and still get paid from work and go protest.

You are not allowed to have days off in medical? Do you have to give reasoning for your days off? I do not but I do not work in that field.

Some people protest because it makes them feel good about standing up for something they believe in, or against what they feel is an injustice, and the act of doing something about it rather than nothing is important to them. Historically, it has worked to help in some instances and brought about some good changes Your right and ability to vote as a woman is one of them. If people see them and talk about it, then even if it was a little impact, it still did something. I'm not sure in the grand scheme of things whether it will make a lasting impact or change any minds, but if they feel that they want to do it locally, it's a choice that they are still free to make.
