I'm amazed at the level of physical fitness that has occurred in our lifetime. It used to be you got exercise if your job was physical or you played sports in school but
Jack LaLane was the beginning of teaching everyday people that they should exercise regularly.
Today local gyms thrive, our greenbelt are busy with joggers, cyclists, and dog walkers.

I agree to a point. Yes if you look at a slice in time it appears there are so many people exercising but if you follow those people of a long time so many stop. In the gym ( in general) people last 3 months before they stop coming regularly and eventually quit. It takes more than 3 months to make a habit. I saw this at the gym- Sept and Jan numbers would swell and 3 months later they were gone. Both of my kids are like this 😢
There are people who exercise, stop, exercise, stop. My Mom was one of these. I remember her doing Jack LaLane but as soon as she felt pain ( post exercise pain) she'd quit.
Then there are people who are lifers. They caught the bug and while they may change the mode they must exercise. I started at 30 and exercise every day. I injured my hip a couple of weeks ago ( exercising 🙄) and it almost killed me to NOT exercise. I even kept walking my dog 1 1/2 miles every day - hobbling along. I normally don't count those daily walks as exercise but I WAS compelled to do something. When you see people you recognize out there exercising those are the lifers. ZMANN and Buffaloglenn are great examples.
I wish as a fitness professional I could have found the perfect formula to make everyone I trained or everyone who walked into my classes Lifers. I always said I don't care what you do- but find something you can do consistently

luannski : Exercise and fitness and weight aren't always directly correlated, but the graphs on obesity sure don't look promising…
I don't think so. And I bet there's more people exercising off and on, but maybe not consistently. It's the FOOD and the portions that make people fat.
Fast food is the biggest curse on the planet. And some have grown up on it.
Heck, we got exercise just standing and holding the rabbit ears in exactly the right spot ?

Tap it on top, tap the side, change the channel (one of three. Four if you could get pbs).
I think junk food is just this generation's smoking, which was the previous generation's drinking. As long as there's stress and anxiety, there will be self-medicating.

My dad made it to 92 in reasonably good health. He said " the trick is to keep moving, it's hard to hit a moving target !"

My DW has me on all types of supplements. A long time ago I learned isometrics which you can do anywhere. As we age it gets extremely difficult to loose weight, but not impossible. Diet and exercise. Spend less time in the recliner too, and put down that bag of snacks. PS I really like Liquid IV especially playing golf in this heat.
