Wildlife in our neighborhood . . . Today dd#1 noticed this all

Yikes! We have 'gators in Kingwood? I haven't seen any critters however something is digging holes in our yard at night. We are wondering if it is an armadillo and if so, how to get rid of it.

Kittle : I don't know about alligators in Kingwood, but I would not be surprised if one strolls in now and then. I live in Louisiana, a little west of New Orleans. At our Kingwood house I've seen a raccoon and a snake -- plus some cats that might be considered wildlife since they are feral -- but no alligators. I've heard of alligators there in or near Kingwood in lakes/ponds where people walk and walk their dogs. I've heard of feral hogs in Kingwood but haven't noticed any posts about them for several years.Armadillos continue to be a big problem for us here in Louisiana. We've trapped some of them but today dd#1 is trying repellents she read about online. Castor oil, red pepper, and powdered garlic. I hope the fumes don't flow into our house!

Thanks for the info. BTW I grew up in central Louisiana and never saw an alligator until I moved away. lol. There have been reports of them in and around Lake Houston. We have a live trap but haven't been able to catch anything and thought armadillos were difficult to trap. I will definitely check online for repellants. Great idea.

Kittle : You sent credits, thank you! Big armadillos tore up our Have-a-Heart trap and escaped. We did catch several with a large, heavy, and expensive trap that I learned about right here in a forum discussion. It was Joe who sent me the ordering information. He was right, it really worked. But years have passed and dh and I can't handle that trap any longer. It was heavy when empty; with a large armadillo inside it would be too difficult for us to lift and carry. I don't remember the ordering information; maybe Joe still has that available?

Have A Heart is what we have. Thanks for the info however DH and I would have trouble with a very heavy trap - we are 74/75 y/o and have to be cautious with older backs. 😢

Kittle : That's also our situation so I understand very well what you mean. Idea! Find some enterprising and strong person near you and make a deal with him. You provide the trap and he can have it to use in his new armadillo-catching business if he will always without charge catch and get rid of any armadillos bothering your property.

HappyHerself : Woke up to this one morning and a big dillo at that.

Smoothwaters : Oh, no! That's not a good way to start your morning, even if it did eliminate one armadillo from damaging your property.

A monkey. That one surprised me. It was in the backyard and shot up our oak tree. That was back around 1998. It apparently was someones pet that escaped.

A monkey in your backyard! I hope the owner was able to get the monkey to return home.

Pulled in the drive one afternoon to a very large hawk munching away on a squirrel. We took his picture and let him enjoy his meal, in hopes he would come back for more 😀

Yes there are gators in East End and once in a while in the drainage ditches around town

There are many alligators in Lake Houston.
Well documented and seen often.
I never understood why anyone would swim in it.
