Home insurance rates - JESUS!

Holy hell. I just saw my updated mortgage payment for February. Our yearly insurance premium increases our monthly payment by $279 each month!

We've lived in this house for almost 6.5 years. We have NEVER even made a claim! Ever.

I knew it was going up but $3400 a year?!? 🤦‍♀️ Thank God we have a super low interest rate so our payment is pretty low for the home we live in....or at least it was. 🫥

Excuse me while I go back to hyperventilating.

Same here, and its only going to get worse. Wait until the math is done on the California fires and factored into the national rates. I can foresee a day when some monthly home insurance payments exceed some mortgage payments.

The rising rates are going to be brutal. And if you have a claim, good luck getting the attention you need and the $$ you are owed. Locally in Kingwood, we are aware of a few friends who are battling their insurance companies for rightfully owed claims. With all the claims, I bet some insurance companies will be going broke or refusing to pay. (I know of 1 that is happening to) We have the honor of having our home here in Kingwood with flooding and storm threats, that raises rates now. And a second home in a high risk wildfire zone. Oh boy ... our rates have gone up a lot!

Yep- can't imagine what ours would be there. When we left it was over 4,000/year!
We just got ours here- it went up 130 for the whole year- it's now at 2200. Insurance, taxes and utilities were some of the reasons we moved. There's no way we could afford those bills when we retire.

When my wife's teenage sons started driving I bought them each their own very cheap used car to learn on. I put the cars and the insurance in their names. It helps cut the liability trail and I only paid crazy rates on the the one cheapo used car at min coverage instead of crazy rates on all my cars. It worked out MUCH cheaper that way. I had to sign a waiver on all my other cars that they were not permitted to drive them. There's no way that they were allowed to drive my cars anyway, so no problem there.

StormChaser : That's an incredible rate, most people are paying about $4000-$5000 now. I am paying $3750 and renewal is July. Insurance company told me it would more than likely be $4000+ because I am I Harris county and the hurricane and recent hail storm and deep freeze, etc But I do have full coverage with no aging reduction on my roof. Most people the roof payout for damage is prorated by age of the roof

Yea it was fine as long as hubs works but we knew once he retired we wouldn't be able to stay in Kingwood. I can't believe how much less expensive it is here ( housing not withstanding). I get water and trash for way less than we did. I am saving as much as I can right now.
