The trees on the greenbelts are being choked out by vines, and after Beryl mostly look terrible. Isn't there anything we can do to bring our greenbelts back?

CoffeeandWine : I noticed that too. I think they need to go area by area and clean up, clear out etc.

CoffeeandWine :
Clearing out the vines would certainly be a good use of our HOA money. Some areas on Kingwood Drive are completely covered with vines.

Citizen organized cleanups would help, but what do we do with the debris?

I've noticed that as well.
I will start carrying shears/snips with me when I walk my dog.
I can probably do two miles in either direction. In that spirit, we'd only need a few dozen citizens to do the same.

Why wait for the HOA?

CoffeeandWine :
After Beryl, some of us went out on them and started picking debris while we still could make piles the city would clean up. I wish we could do that more often.

Quinton495 :
Well, that's a start for sure. I appreciate your effort but it's gonna take alot more to tackle the vines than one lone snipper. I'm really not putting down your contribution but it seems like the greenbelts and Kingwood are on a downward slide. Sorry to sound like a downer, but when I look around . . .

You're not being a downer. The woods in this region do fine with being left untouched. I don't know much about trees but I can see they flourish untouched. Unless this is some weird invasive species I'd would imagine its only a beautification thing.

It really wouldn't be that difficult of a movement to convince 45 people to devote 3 hours to a region near their home.

The trees are being overtaken by an invasive plant called kudzu. It is hard to get rid of and is very destructive.

CoffeeandWine : Many of those nasty vines remain even after the big volunteer removal showing of several months ago. Its just so nasty!

we should listen to what's happening in California. You have to take care of the floor in order for fire not to spread.

You can't just cut kudzu back. It has to be fully removed - dug out or burned out. It is aggressive and invasive on it own, but the birds and critters also spread it. They eat the berries it produces and the crap the seeds out in other places. Google kudzu to see pictures. When we lived in Atlanta, they were having a real problem with it.

HOA won't spend that kind of money and apparently COH won't clean out their part either.
