From Harvey to Beryl I joined this forum during Harvey. I can't recall the total number of weather storms we have endured in this area during this time period. Too many! Small storms, warnings, large hurricanes, larger hurricanes, flooding, now it is storm damage because of trees. And then, of course-the time after the storms-cleanup and no electricity! This is the worst part of storms--as Tom Petty sang, "The Waiting is the Hardest Part". I didn't grow up with any of this, (and it becomes harder to endure) so, I am making a plan to not stay in this area in my elder years. I think my children are thinking the same as me. I do understand the desire to stay by many, I just don't think I can as I get older. I am thankful that I can make a plan and I see amazing strength in others who choose to stay. So many have ability mentally and financially. I have decided that I don't want to be the grandma everyone worries about in a storm. It's enough that my children worry about me for health reasons. And I do work and support myself, but, I have to work/manage my health 100 % of my day. I have thought a lot about this, but, I remember the time in my life when I never worried about an upcoming storm --and all I had to think about was hmmm, did I close the windows to my car? Those were the days! See, I already sound like the grandma recalling the good old days…….

That certainly is one solution and one we chose to take. We wanted to be closer to our DD here in Phoenix and getting away from the hurricanes was another. Not going to lie the move was hard- I miss my friends and Kingwood, BUT I love my new town and my house. No place is perfect- just last night we had a dust storm and the winds were strong enough to blow stuff into the pool, and this morning air quality is bad with all the dust particulate in the air. You will find a nice place to land and have new adventures to look forward to. Good Luck
Thank you! I appreciate your positive response. It will take me time of course, and money/retirement preparation but, I will find a place! Blessings to you for your kind words-Jnet
This is home. I don't know of anywhere else I would want to go. I've traveled almost all 48 states and haven't found one w less issues than here. Kind of like job hopping, I just hate it. Better the devil you know than the devil you don't 😀 my granny used to say.

I've traveled almost all 48 states
None have left. So, this map seems to show 50 states.
I will probably go towards central Texas. Grew up there, nothing like this area in regards to storms. Glad it is working for you, you are fortunate🙂
😀 yea, but I doubt I ever drive to Alaska and positive I will never drive to Hawaii 😀 but my next sugar daddy can fly me to both when I find him! Taking applications if you know anyone.

As long as daughter and the twin are here I guess we are staying. I am wondering if I should buy a house in her neighborhood. Butler does NOT want to leave Kingwood.

I am thinking about getting an RV and living in that. If there is a storm, or storm potential, I will just get the hell out. I also thought about giving up my business and just being my daughter's Nanny.
Yes it took us jus about 2 years.. Dd moved in June of 2022. We made many visits out here and went back and forth and back and forth over the decision. Sooo many considerations! I started looking for a house before DD moved. Houses are so expensive here. I found one in Nov in 2022 but it wasn't the right time. BUT in Jan it was still on the market and had been reduced! So we pulled the trigger. We put our KW house on the market of April 2023 and it sold in 2 days. We were super blessed that everything fell into place .

Props to you for self advocating and making hard choices for your well-being! I'm sure it's incredibly daunting to think of picking up and moving your entire life (or at least it is to me!). Go you!
