{So, I just went onto the Cafe du Bois webpage, as I was thinking of making reservations, and unfortunately, saw the notice that they're closing their doors....  I posted the notice below....}February 11, 2015To friends and supporters of Café du Bois in Kingwood’s Town CenterPatrons and followers of Café du Bois may have recently been exposed to rumors that the restaurant is closing. Rumors and hearsay notoriously become distorted, twisted and embellished with each passing in the chain of tellers. Here are the factsToday we are officially making an announcement regarding the restructuring and subsequent closing of Café Du Bois after nearly 14 years of service to the community. Following several months of intense marketing on the Internet, local magazines, local news papers, and radio interviews, it has become evident that we can not attract enough consistent patronage to sustain the restaurant in the presentstate of the economy.Closing and New Hours of Operation InformationCafé Du Bois will be officially closing by April 1, 2015. In the interim, days and hours of operation willchange and be effective immediately. . . See below. The Café will be closed this Friday, Saturday and Sunday (February 13 ‐ 15) due to a medicalemergency. Chef Arturo will not be available those days and we have no substitute chef, therefore wehave no way to prepare the gourmet meals for our patrons until he returns on Monday, February 16.We apologize to our friends and patrons who have made reservations for Valentines Dayweekend, for this unforeseen dilemma.New hours of operation beginning Monday, February 16,2015Monday through Saturday — 8:00 A.M. ‐ 3:00 P.M. — Serving Breakfast and Lunch OnlyClosed Sundays (Sunday Brunch is discontinued)MenusWe will have a limited menu, but many selections from the current dinner menu will be available untilcurrent inventory is depleted. There will also be specials on the wine and liquor inventory. We will appreciate your patronage and support as we make a best effort to exit gracefully.Respectfully,Cheryl Johnson and the Café du Bois Family 4951

I am really going to miss the Grand Marnier Soufflé.

Where else can I get it locally besides Chez Nous? 4951

If you like French food, I highly recommend Chez Nous! It is one of the best French restaurants in the Greater Houston area. Ask to be seated in the main room for special occasions or ask for the Library when you don't want to be too hoity toity.

Get on their monthly mailing to get a discount on their prix fixe menu. The prix fixe menu is good but not as sinful as the regular menu. I keep trying to make it to a wine dinner at CN, but have not yet had that pleasure.

My favorite things are the Rack of Lamb and the trio of soufflé. The Coquille Saint Jacques is sinful.

Annie....In all honesty, my sweet friend, the closest that I've ever had to "French grub" is a croissant.......Or French Fries!...I don't do "meats" per say, only chicken on occasion.......But you had my hubbs at Rack Of Lamb!....And he's been wanting hit up Chez Nous for some time now.... ....How are their salads, and do they have bread?...And is there a particular Appetizer, Side Dish, or Dessert that you recommend?  P.S.-  Do I request seating in the Library area when making reservations? Many Thanks! 4951

Before you go, look at the menu and pick a few dishes from each course that appeal to you. I can probably give you an educated thumbs up or down.

If you want me to do a cut and paste of this month's prix fixe (set price menu that has 3 courses), I can do that too.

They do have a wonderful vinagrette that actually will get me to eat salad, but break out of your norm and have something made with butter!

Will you eat seafood or escargot?

That was sort of an odd way of stating it.

We were waiting to get into Chachis a while back so strolled over to look at the posted dinner menu - pretty pricey. Quickly strolled back. 4951

Annie...You are so after my own heart, my beautiful friend.......I was just now peepin' their menu out........I kid you not!  (Great minds think alike!)....On their Prix Fixe Menu, how's the Parmesan crusted Breast of Free Range Chicken with Lemon Caper Butter.........And on the Current Menu, how about the Gulf Shrimp Provencale sauteed with Tomatoes, Garlic, Lemon and Herbs........The Roasted Fruit, Organic Field Greens, Aged Parmesan and a Vanilla Bean Vinaigrette Salad.......And the Fresh Blue Crab, Mango, Avocado and Tomato Tower.....I have absolutely no clue how to choose from their AMAZE-BALLS sounding Desserts.......Also, what's up where it states that you must request their warm bread....Many, Many Thanks! 4951

The "notice" seems a bit more like a lecture on how the community didn't support them, so as punishment, they are reducing hours, and taking away brunch until they close. We really didn't need a snooty novella about it all. A simple "unfortunately we have decided to close, effective April 15. Thank you for 14 wonderful years."

As far as intense marketing, I saw an occasional ad, and that's about it. Did they really reach out to the community, say they way Rigo's or So Chocolate has done? Did they interact with people here? 4951

It is a crime to warm the bread. Eat it in its beautiful crusty state. It is awesome with the butter from under the domed lids.

The crab tower is my husband's favorite appetizer. You can't go wrong here. Sadly, I didn't see the Coquille appetizer (scallops) on either menu.

If you get the prix fixe menu, at least one of you should get the escargot. The chicken is not one I have tried but it does sound tasty. The creme brulee is better than the mousse, imo.

Do you know the prix fixe changes monthly?

When you make the reservation, you can tell them that you are celebrating a special occasion.

If you prefer the Library, just ask for that. It is used when the restaurant is busier. 4951
