I know, not a pretty subject. I clean ours religiously but the ones upstairs are still starting to get stained. I am assuming it's hard water stains?? I have tried bleach, CLR, heavy duty toilet cleaners, to no avail. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!Emoticon 4951

depends on what it is.Metal staining is usually brown, common (like rust from iron) or sometimes green from copper, but that is rare. usually an acid will take care of that, but you said you tried CLR, so must not be that.Hard water usually leaves behind a calcium deposit (dirty white crusty) and CLR or acid usually takes of that also.Starting to sound like a form of mold (black), best thing to do in that case is use a heavy bleach solution. Try putting a cup in the bowl and let it sit for a long while. 4951

Mold will have it's roots INSIDE the glaze. Bleach will usually kill all the outside stuff, but the roots down inside will cause it to grow back, typically. At least that was how it was explained to me. 4951

We have one toilet that does this in between 2/3x weekly cleanings. So frustrating! Atascocita/Kingwood has weird water. Emoticon

The only thing I've found that works on these freaky water stains (I think I know exactly what you're talking about...drives me batty!) is The Works. It's blue...you squirt it on around the bowl (concentrating on the stains, or where the water ends at the top), leave it, and it's GONE in like 5 minutes. Even bleach doesn't compare. (It has kind of a strong odor, though, so keep ventilated. The odor doesn't linger after you scrub/flush)

Strangely, I can only find it now at Dollar General (and it's like a buck and some change per bottle), so I stock up. Try it!

@brightlights: A the dollar store!? Excellent!! I will go get some. I appreciate it. And yeah it seems like it is in the same area where the water flows into the bowl to refill it, know what I mean? Anyway, thanks again!
