Thank you for the info on getting to Hermann Memorial downtown! I'm heading back down there in the morning after I drop everyone off at school. So, prime rush hour time, I figure. (Roughly 8am.) I will be by myself. 1) Can I get on the HOV or Toll Lane by myself? 2) If I have EZ Tag, will that pay my toll? 3) WTH do I get on - I would be getting onto 59 at North Park - do I get off at Townsen and get onto it there? THANK YOU for all of your help! This newbie with no family here and who's husband had an accident today, appreciates it very much. 4951

Here is a link with map and rules for HOVhttp://www.ridemetro.org/SchedulesMaps/HOV.aspxhttp://www.ridemetro.org/Services/HOTLanes.aspxJust take the same way you went before.  You will just have to grin and bear the traffic no matter what route you take.  4951

I get on before Townsen. Go down the feeder & pass Kingwood Hospital, the entrance for the HOV/HOT lanes is on the left across from Sorters Rd/ Suzuki Car Dealer. 4951

You can get on the HOV lane without passengers. I think it costs $2.50. Your EZ tag will be charged. 4951

You definitely can get on with the EZ tag on the HOV.  My son does it everyday to go to school downtown and he is a single person in the car.  He get on the HOV past Kingwood Drive but before 1960.  Just be careful because the HOV splits in two lanes.  You will see the white pole dividers.  The signs will tell you what lane you are supposed to be in.  Those with the EZ tag because there is only one driver in the car, I believe you stay right. The people with two or more people stay to the left?  This is near/before 1960.  This is only for one second and you merge back to one lane. This will also happen much further down by the maintenance building the lane divides again for the same purpose.  This is before 610 exit.   Just be careful and slow down.  Follow all the way like you would if were on 59.  Good luck with your husband!  I hope everything will be okay! 4951

I've noticed the price seems to change depending on traffic load. I've seen it from $1 no load times to as high as $4.50 (or some where around that) during peak traffic hours. 4951

You would stay right in the two split lane sections going towards downtown, but coming back you would stay left. 4951

You actually stay to left at the first toll catcher...and to the right at the second toll-catcher!! Going downtown. If you get on before 6:00 drive like a bat-outta-hell, 'cause I'll catch up!! 4951

@manhunter: Not true, the toll lane when you're on in the Humble area is on the left but the second one after the cutoff for 610/Kelley is on the right side. I always wondered why they didn't keep it the same for both toll places.

Why pay?  Leave a little earlier.  Traffic isn't that bad. 4951

@pksbar: You know you're, the first one is left, then the second is right.  Guess they do that hoping that HOV's will stay right accidently so they can get charged. 4951

@fcabanski: Can't - I have 3 little kids - one goes to elementary school, the other two in daycare. No family here as we just moved here - was visiting DH in the hospital. But thanks - would have thought to do that if I could have! Thanks for the tips. I was on 59 by 8:15 and did get onto the HOV. 59 itself was great up until the city - wow, paying whatever I paid through EZ Tag was worth it. Hoping to get out of here soon, now to beat the traffic going back North. Fun times! And to settle the argument, it was left lane for toll first, than right lane. Emoticon
