I still have mine thank God, when the lights went out a couple of Sundays ago it was my only way to communicate. My cell phone battery was low and my cordless phones were not working. But in my sons room he still has one of those old school phones from back in the day that I kept! Every now and then I have to slam it down when I am haning up on someone to they will get my point! You can't do that on a cordless. Emoticon 4951

Man I miss those slam the phone down days.

@jax: They come in handy too for those telemarketers or solicitors. 4951

As another election year rolls around, I am considering getting rid of my house phone too.

I must get 10 calls a day for political polls.

Or the Shriners, or Clothing Donate, or The City Club, and on and on.

I have to say I keep my house phone in case I ever have an emergency.  911 can find me quicker on a house phone, or at least I think they can.
@Fallon: I get those too, not sure how they got my number either, so I've asked them not to call but they always do. So now I don't answer the phone if I don't know the number or person calling. 4951

@bubbleyes72: They'd be perfect when the ex-wife calls too!  I might have to get me one of those again!

In my case (haven't had one in yrs), the only time I miss is when I can't find my cell, as I do not have another phone to call ring my cell to find it, or, when I'm having cell phone issues and call ATT, and they tell me I need to call back on a different phone.When I got rid of mine yrs ago, my mom called and it was disconnected, called my cell and when I told her I got rid of it, she asked if things are that bad, she can loan me some money to get my phone turned back on, lol. Some folks don't understand not having a home phone, but as stated above, I noticed only time I used it was to answer telemarketing calls (was always fwd'd to my cell anyway). 4951

We have a land line but have thought about getting rid of it.  That's where all our junk calls come through.  We use caller ID to decide if we should answer it. 4951

A few years back I did away with the land line & called back two weeks later & got it back with my same number. I'm not attached to my cell phone & my husband doesn't take his out of the car, so it was driving me crazy. No one could get in touch with us. Since it was disconnected for only two weeks I think my friends & family thought we didn't pay the bill.   LOL 4951

@pksbar:
For about three years I had my home phone transferred to an old number that once belonged to my grandparents that no longer worked, so when people would call they would get the operator informing them that the  number was no longer in service. I did this because I got tired of all the telemarketers. So when family and friends would call me they would say something is wrong with your phone and I would tell them no, I can make calls but can't receive them because I transferred my phone. I loved it too, it would ring one time then go to the other number. I always knew when my cell phone was off and someone was trying to reach me because they would call my home numerous times letting me know they were trying to reach me. It was always a family member. When my son joined the Navy I un-transferred it so I wouldn’t miss his calls. 4951
