Ok so we're draining our pool because we've had issues with the pump and the water turned green and we haven't been able to get it back so were starting from square one. So my question is I'm thinking about hiring slmeone(not a company) to scrub the edges and bottom really good before refilling it, so how much is a fair amount to pay someone? We will be fixing the pump after filling, my husband knows what's wrong and can fix it. Just thought it would be easier on him if we pay someone to clean it good first, I'm pregnant so I wouldn't be much help helping the hubby. Thanks 4951

You might be wasting your time and money with scrubbing. Call Texas Tom's  pool supply in Town Center and ask them what to do. It might just be a matter of filling the pool, and adding chemicals to clean the surface.  4951

@TexINS:

The sides have green algae built up so that's what I was saying needs to be scrubbed real good. I'm sure once the pump is working right and its refilled we won't have anymore problems. I just do t want to start with clean water and yucky sides you know 4951

@Irispixies: Chemicles will take care of that! Do you have an automated pool cleaner thing? Do you know how much it costs to refill a pool! Shock it....

@pksbar:
We've already spent prob $500 in chemicals trying to get it clean, then realized there was something wrong with the pump. We couldn't get the pump to stay running long enough to get it clean. It would be clean for a day or two then it gets bad again. Since we know what's wrong with the pump and can fix it we just want to start over. I realize it costs a lot and were prepared for that. Just getting tired of hundreds of dollars a month going to a pool that we can't use Emoticon

You need to be careful draining it if there are not relief in the pool with as much rain as we have had lately. You don't want it popping up.

Have you fixed the filter?

Using flock worked really well. Basically $15 and then chemicals to stabilize afterwards.

You r really could have it back to beautiful in just 2 or 3 days by using the flock and vacuuming to waste and brushing with an algae brunsh till your back is killing you. 4951

We've tried everything the pool people have told us to get it back to normal. It's already a quarter of the way drained and we know we have to leave enough in that it won't pop. We will be refilling as soon as its drained And scrubbed so no problems there. I've just been going out there and spraying the sides good and scrubbing as more water drains 4951

There are sand filters...large and round.
Cartridge filters are smaller and cylindrical
DE are kinda combination of the 2.

If the filters aren't cleaned and haven't been working correctly you will just be running your nice clean water though an algae bath. 4951

By scrubbed are you meaning an acid wash?

We use DE powder so I'm guessing that. Just cleaned the filters about 2 weeks ago, but will def clean them again before running again 4951

The fastest and cheapest and easiest way, if shock is not enough

Fill the pool to the top
Brush with an algae brush, not a regular brush, everything off the sides and bottom. The water will be a beautiful disgusting Solid green
Use the flock and circulate WITHOUT filtering for about 6-8 hours then turn off completely
Let sit for atleast 12 hours.
The algae will drop to the bottom. It looks really cool.
Vacuum SLOWLY to waste. You will have to add water periodically.

Run nothing through the filter.

Our pool was giving us major algae issues a few years ago, we called our pool guy and he put in his miracle concoction and within 24 hours it was crystal clear and would stay that way for a long while.  After two or 3 trips out it has stayed clear.  We now keep floating chlorine dispensers in there to help.We drained ours in efforts first and pressure washed it.  It did work for a while. 4951
