My daughter plays with the kids and they are homeschooled. So today the girl asks my daughter, "why don't you have your mom homeschool you so we can play all day?"

Really, aren't you supposed to be learning all day? They come and knock on our door during the day while my husband is sleeping.

My daughter told her she likes going to school and she wouldn't be homeschooled. 4951

@mattem That's probably because it takes a fraction of the time to teach a lesson when you are teaching to one child as opposed to an entire classroom. Or maybe she's not being taught. Who knows! 4951

I could never homeschool my brood and be sane. I could also never work with kids all day and come home to mine and be sane!! I love them but NO WAY!! Plus I've always thought they would take better instruction from teachers then listening to "mom" where it seems to go in one ear and out the other alot! 4951

It depends on the grade.  First grade is 30 min to an hour to get it all in.  They waste that much time in school.   4-6 is about 2 1/2 to 2 hours.  High School maxes out at 4 maybe 6 if you are heavily college prepping and doing much more work than the schools are. 4951

Or maybe, the lessons are so well structured that studying is actually fun. 4951

Why don't you just ask the mom to not let her knock on your door?

The beauty of homeschooling is that it doesn't have to be done during regular hours. They may teach in the evening. Or take turns during the day between the 3 kids. 4951

@mattem:
Really, aren't you supposed to be awake during the day?  Seriously though, have you ever told the children which hours of the day were and were not visiting hours? Have you talked with their parents regarding when their children would be welcome to visit? Or do you just not like them because their education choices differ from your own?

@KellyG:
You do realize that some people work nights? I agree a quick talk with the mom would fix the problem of them knocking at the wrong time. She said the children play together so I don't think it has anything to do with liking them or not.

For many parents, homeschooling is just a way to remove children from getting into trouble at school. This happens more frequently than parents who actually teach their children at home. For those that do take the time to teach their kids at home...real homeschooling...more power to you. Just make sure you keep paying your school taxes please!Thank you! 4951

My husband works nights. So he is asleep during the day. Actually we have told the kids not to come over during the day. They will also come over after 8 and ask if my kids can play. Obviously I tell them know cause they Are already in bed or about to go to bed. There is no parental supervision. The kids run thru the meighbors yards and flower beds and are out playing till like 930 at night with nobody watching them. If they want to homeschool that's their right, I have no problem with it.

@BooBear:
Yes. Of course I realize that. I was making a comment on sleeping during the day in the same vein as the comment @mattem made regarding learning during the day. Maybe I should have made that clearer. One ignorant comment deserving another and all that.

@mattem:
The behavior you are describing has NOTHING to do with homeschooling. It has to do with parenting. There IS a difference.
