What is the punishment? Maybe is legally needed so that beneficiaries do not receive insurance money. It seems kind of pointless. But sorry, I am highjacking the thread. Back to the main topic. Good points! 4951
Laws are most effective at keeping honest people honest. Laws will never stop those who posses and exhibit criminal culpability (purposely, knowingly, recklessly, and with negligence commit a crime). All we can do is try and stay one step ahead of them with effective enforcement methods, not words in a book.I won't even pretend to know what it's like to lose a child, and I hope that I never will. Those who have, they all are in my thoughts. 4951
These are two citizens speaking against gun-control at a Hartford, CT council meeting and offer a lot of common sense. They are well worth watching. 4951
@Fallon Life insurance won't pay out if the suicide occurs 2 during the first two years of the policy. At the end of the second year the policy would cover death by suicide. 4951
@notfromhere Its just the first two years. I guess the insurance companies believe that if someone wants to off themselves they aren't going to wait 2 years. 4951

@TexINS: You are correct - they will not cover suicide within the first two years of coverage. This is to prevent someone considering suicide from taking out a policy on themselves and following through with suicide requiring the benefit payment to whoever they designated as their beneficiary. As far as suicide being illegal, that would vary by state just like many other state laws do, but it would obviously be difficult to enforce and prosecute. 4951

@manhunter:  Very true. However, I don't think enforcing and prosecuting an attempted suicide is the ultimate purpose of laws against suicide. Instead, it provides a legal means to get the person help, even is it is non-voluntary and they must be committed. 4951
