So if I'm not mistaken didn't a republican free the slaves? If that is true isn't Obama running for the wrong party? And if so then why do African Americans vote for Obama and then ***** about how 50 million years ago they were slaves? Shouldn't they be voting for Romney since a Republican freed them? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure this case.
@Nicole4647: Yea, you're wrong. The names are the same and so are the fiscal spending habits. That said, the stances towards blacks and minorities have switched. This process is well documented, and goes by the name of the
Southern Strategy. It was a highly successful realignment of the Republican party.
These types of realignments are always happening. This is what creates the images that neither party has principles. If a big enough representation gap is present, one of the only two parties we've got will eventually cannibalize it. Right now, the Republican party is the party of racists, bigots, and Christians. It stands to reason not all members of the party follow those tenants, but if you follow those tenants you're overwhelmingly more likely to join the party that has tapped that electoral resource.Do the Democrats really care about GLBT rights? Nope, they're just aligning with interests. Some of their members are passionate about the issue, and if you do align with the issue you're overwhelmingly more likely to be a Democrat. The Republicans have the
Log Cabin Republicans and until this year they weren't even recognized by the RNC (afaik). 4951
