Hi everyone. I am a candidate for District E this Nov. for Houston city Council. There are 3 candidates and besides myself, Dave Martin and Elizabeth Perez. I live in Kingwood and have worked in the Service Industry over 30 years. Houston has never had a rest/bar representative on City Council. I need to support on spreading my candidacy. I am a Houstonian, Not a Politician for this seat.  Thanks everyone! Lonnie Allsbrooks 4951

How long have you lived in Kingwood? The link above (from 2009) says you live in The Heights. Ill be honest with yout, I don't want a "carpetbagger" who doesnt under Kingwood representing me. Even more importantly, I don't want a proponent of alcohol/ owner of "Beer Island " (you mention the city's denial of an alcohol permit spurred you to run) representing me. 4951

I read your press release and you used the three knockout factor words for me: Diversity, fairness and equality. I think I know your political leanings which doesn't match mine.We just need councilmen to make it easier for people to do business and keep the expenses down. That's it, no need for social engineering. 4951

What, is this message board for political self touting now? It will irritate people more than it puts them on your side. 4951

How in the world is Kingwood and Clear Lake in the same district? They're 45 miles a part from each other. 4951

@KwoodRedRaider: done purposely since both areas are predominantly white/conservative. It was taken to court and the court ruled that only minority vote can be suppressed, not caucasion vote. Since the majority of city council is inner city democrat votes, they drew the districts that way.

Beer isn't evil.  Businesses that serve beer aren't evil.  A business person looking out for business interests is a good thing.  Businesses employ people and generate a lot of tax revenue. 4951

@TexINS: You should probably explain to him what you reject those "knockout" words--we aren't exactly in the business of promoting candidates who will implement racial uniformity, gross unfairness, and entrenched inequality, are we?

District E-Kingwood, Clear Lake, Southeast Houston(Edgebrook, Ellington Field,Scarsdale), Northshore.  I respect each of your comments and each of you have a right to vote for the candidate of your choice.  My comments to these replies, 1) I have lived in District E, over 20 yrs. and have lived in each of the areas 2) I am from Houston and my family/several friends live in Kingwood and have lived in this area for past year 3)I have worked with some of the best rest/bar companies in United States(Pappas, Disney, D& B, Darden Co), 4)I owned a business that served a variety of beverages for 6 yrs, attempted to open a cafe in same area and City of Houston made mistake and approved location, after I received license, spent $70,000, City voided license because of their mistake in approval in Dry area, 5) My reasoning for running is to bring back the true meaning of public service, which is equal support for all the residents in District E, help the public and not ignore their needs, not in this for my agenda, like most candidates, 6) diversity and equality is for the quality of life everyone deserves as a resident of District E and an American, 7) my opponents are both good people, just different views on what's best for the City of Houston, some examples: spending millions of $'s on a High School Stadium, when teachers are not receiving the pay they should be,  large trucks are dodging potholes in school zones w/No sidewalks, flooding in areas that continue to be ignored,  mobility tax dollars being use for other purposes, metro sucking us dry. I place this message under local politics, assuming that was the correct category and as a Houstonian and the only Houstonian candidate running for District E, I was simply introducing myself and asking support from those who appreciated a local individual who is an entrepreneur, Not a career politician, who wants to help our City, by helping those who pay taxes to the City.  This is a Special Election, due to Mr. Sullivan candidacy for Tax Asc., estimate voters in District E(375,000), # of District E voters who vote in Mayor/Council Election(11,000), # of District E voters who will vote in this General Election and know any of the 3 candidates true positions on important City issues(264,00).  It's nice to see people discuss this topic,  no matter who you support. I hope no one takes offense on my replies.  I will respect this blog for other purposes and not reply on any other comments. Thanks 4951

On a couple of points. What iswrong with a high school football stadium? Doesn't each ISD have one really nice football stadium to accomodate all the teams. Seems less expensive to do it this way than to have to mainain and continually upgrading each high school football field.  High School football is a Texas tradition, we are known for it (Friday Night Lights) it seems the wrongthing to go after. And it doesn't matter how much money you throw at the public school system they will never get it right and will still be holding fundraisers to buy paper. If you want to increase their salary it means you need to raise revenue i.e. tax someone to pay for it. So which is it? Try to increase property tax or some special $.1 sales tax? The savings from not building anything again would not pay for an increase in teacher's salaries - you do realize they only work 171 days out of the year.As for metro, I can't support anybody who supporst the expansion of the inefficient light rail system. LAstly, I thought the special water tax was supposed to take care of the drainage porblems.  4951
