so sad Emoticon  Hang these people!  I can't believe Spindletop (as most have now found out who) would actually treat animals like this! I can't even stand putting any of my pets in a cage!  My ferrets even run loose all day! 4951

You have to have pitbulls in securely kenneled.  I can attest to that.  I have followed Spindletop Rescue for years, the gal that founded it is truly a wonderful person.  She had always kept her dogs to around 80, so how she got up to 300 is beyond me.  We don't really know the full story so I don't want to knock her until she makes a statement.  I saw pics where they were pulling the dogs, and they all looked pretty healthy.  She has always taken good care of her dogs, so I can't imagine what happened.Sometimes rescues get over their heads and things get easily out of control.  Pitbulls are the most difficult dogs to place, so the turnover is slow to say the least.  She has done so many positive things for this breed and has dispelled so many myths about pitbulls.  She is considered an expert witness on this breed and has even testified in court.  She has rescued countless pitbulls, so I hate this happened.  I doubt all the dogs were sitting in urine & feces, but some of them probably were.  It is not uncommon for even boarding dogs to used the bathroom in their run, however, they are able to move away from a soiled area where dogs in kennels are not.  I do feel bad for her, because she really has a heart for this breed.  4951

Don't be fooled just because an "agency" calls themselves a "Rescue Organization".  According to the local law enforcement anyone can call themselves a "Shelter" or "Rescue Organization"!! 4951

DOODLEBUG, MOST rescue groups are honorable people. We are regular people who give our time  and love to save animls others dump and abuse. )Just like some people act like cops or surgeons....they are always people who will misrepresent themselves in all areas.  People should always do their homework before adopting or buying a dog to see where they are coming from.        I can say from personal experience KDCERS Emoticon).... All texas Dachsund rescue and Twyla's Friends Rescue keep dogs in private foster homes and they dogs get EXCELLENT vet care. They are the 2 groups I am with and I can tell people out there, don't let one bad story stop you from adopting a rescued animal. Please adopt, save a life!!Emoticon)) You can end up with beauties like mineEmoticon)  Below,my 10 pound mini long hair purebred longhair dachshundEmoticon)

In the video they talked about a dog laying on its back because its feet were so damaged by urine. I don't care what this women has done in the past, what she is currently doing is illegal and I hope she goes to jail. Shame on her, how would she feel if we locked her in a closet with out food and water and let her lay in her own mess with out getting out for days at a time. There is no excuse to treat animals this way. She could of asked for her, she should have asked for help!  4951

how horrible that mans best friend could be treated in these deploriable conditions, She had to have known what these poor animals were going through if she walked by their cages even once a week . She should be put in a small cell with out food or water & no where to use the bathroom but on her own feet . Maybe then she would change her way of thinking & treating animals that have no voice ...... 4951

I do remember Spindletop being one of the best places for a Pit to go...if it had no where else to go...SO sad that it got bad.  I also truly wonder why/how she could/would let this happen.....There really is no excuse to allow something like this to happen.....like someone implied, set your limits and stick to them...don't allow yourself to get over your head like she obviously did.  I feel so badly for the dogs, b/c they had no choice/voice in the matter..... 4951

How old is she...sometimes age kicks in and they kinda get lost in it all....That happened to another Rottweiler shelter years back in another  state...for 30 years she was the best, she trained them, rehomed them and even smart enough to know when to put them down. she was the one to go to for that breed and then no one heard much from her for a year or so and she stopped taking dogs in but she had like 135 when someone finally looked in on her...she had gotten sick and was feeding them whatever she could. She really was damn near bed ridden and not totally "there"!Really sad that one can dedicate their life saving and changing a breed and have it end on a bad enough note that total strangers would talk smack not knowing the whole story. 4951

I agree Burnsway, I don't know what happened to her rescue other than the fact that it grew out of control, so she started neglecting these dogs, it's so so sad.  She really has helped many pitbulls through the years and has educated so many people on responsible pitbull ownership.  It's unfortunate, all those years and you do the unthinkable.........your reputation and all your past good works go down the drain.I am glad someone turned her in though so the dogs could be saved.  I know many people in rescue that have done it for so many years and just suddenly get out of it, cold turkey.  It really takes a toll on you emotionally, physically & financially.I am just sick that everything she worked so hard for is now gone.  That's one less rescue group for the breed that needs it most.   I am so passionate about this breed in particular, if I could save each one, I would.   It was Leah at Spindletop who gave me so much information on pitbulls, the facts & myths, she explained to me the difference between human aggression vs. dog aggression, she talk to me about my dog's chronic demodex issues and offered a solution that completely cured her of any future demodex outbreaks.  She cautioned me and told me to make sure my pitbulls were crated in separate crates and secure any time I leave them alone....I didn't understand this until a few months ago when I had an incident at my house between 2 of my pitbulls.  So I commend Leah for her knowledge she has given me.  I hope she gets the help she needs.  I hope all the Spindletop dogs get into a good home or foster care.  They deserve it now more than ever. 4951

Anyone who uses Facebook wanting to follow this can go to Victims of Spindletop Raid.   People are posting updates.  Some of the dogs are being identified and being released back to owners now.  At one time Spindletop had a great reputation. Many years ago they were the only pit bull rescue around and seemed to do a lot of good.  It is so sad to see this now and so very hard to understand how this could happen. 4951
