U.S. government actions of just lately off the top of me head;Spend millions on 2nd trial for Roger ClemensNow going after lance Armstrong for the second timeObama bypassing the 14th ammendment on non-legal aliensObama trying to force Americans to buy insuranceDrones to patrol US skys keeping us under watchPatriot Act.Increase taxes on "bad" things.NYC limiting the size of a drink you can buy.Try to Ban bad things, like incandescent light bulbs.Eminent Domain new law allowing government to take your land for the "greater good".It is said any expansion of government power results in a loss of freedom. From She's Right blog;As long as one lives within the scope of what the government deems okay, the reach of government power into our lives is not obvious.  It is not until one wants to exercise a different choice that the limitation of our freedom is felt. From For Which It Stood blog; The concept of liberty has been thrown to the wind by the hands of the United States federal government; it’s reached a point where the idea of self-ownership is an alien concept. State and individual sovereignty are foreign concepts. The Constitution is frequently ignored. These are great tragedy. The suppression of personal liberty has not only thrown our society into turmoil by costing the taxpayer a small fortune, nor only imprisoned the highest population percentage per capita of any country (in large due to prosecution of victimless crimes), but it has rewritten the principles our government was founded on, challenged the innate right of self-ownership, and has perpetuated one of the greatest injustices of all time: the oppression of personal liberty.Thoughts? 4951

Oh, here is another good one.Is this the best Reid and McCain can do -- regulate boxing? If we did not know better, the announcement from Washington that two senior Senators are proposing the creation of a national commission to regulate boxing would be dismissed as a cruel joke. But this is no joke, and Senators Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and John McCain (R-Ariz.) are serious. They seem to believe the recent controversy over a judges’ decision in the Bradley-Pacquiao fight in Las Vegas awarding victory to Bradley warrants this recondite unlimbering of the heavy artillery of federal authority. Of course there is not much going on these days in our Government and so these two lawmakers have time on their hands. Not there is a growing deficit or the economy is in the dumper or anything. 4951

Watch the evening news on any given day.  Last time I watched it, the first 8 stories were rape, fire, kidnapping, murder, etc. related.  Depressing, really. 4951

It continues;Big soda bans may be spreading around the country. The mayor of Cambridge, Mass. has proposed limiting the size of soda and sugar-sweetened beverages sold in city restaurants, saying she was inspired by a similar measure in New York City. The American Medical Assn. voted Wednesday at its annual meeting to adopt a policy that recognizes soda taxes as one way to pay for antiobesity programs, and that says any such tax revenue should go to programs to treat obesity and related conditions. 4951

Plus the senate refusing to pass the fair pay act allowing women to be paid almost 25% less than men. That one really p*sses me off.  The government has just gotten ridicules. I think we just need to get all new people in congress, replace everyone and start over new going by the Constitution and keeping equality in mind. I do not get how public university are allowed to make different requirements for different races. This is really bad with the medical schools, If you are white, Asian or  middle eastern the scores and grades to get in are MUCH higher than those of Hispanics, Native Americans and African Americans. Even if you have the scores and are one white, Asian or middle eastern you still may not get in. The schools get more funding for being diverse, which is ridicules everyone should have the same standard instead of having an advantage because of race. I have a friend who has nearly perfect MCAT scores and a 3.9 Gpa and is still having a hard time getting in medical school because of this diversity stuff. How is this fair, what happened to equality despite. Like home come there can be a Black Miss America and Latina Miss America pageants in addition to Miss America but if there was a white miss america pageant everyone would be screaming racist. That and the national negro college, if there was a white only college everyone would be screaming racist too, so how is this equal? I am not a racist by any means but this stuff seriously irritates me. 4951

@FoFa: This stuff is stupid as long as someone exercises enough they can eat what ever they want and not get fat. What is really ironic about this is soda is so cheap because the corn uses to make the corn syrup used to make the soda is subsidized so essentially we subsidize the corn but then get p*ssed off because the corn products are so cheap and then tax them.

eminent domain is not new , Ohio was using it 20 years ago to take property around the mall so they could spread the mall area out . They took beautiful homes & put in more parking areas & more shopping areas ...so it's nothing new .

Interest rates are at an all time low to boost the housing market  , a step in the right direction

several high powered enemies of the US have been killed or taken prisioner in just the past 2 years , so another step in the right direction

most people look at what is not good right now instead of looking at the entire picture & seeing what is good
you have to remember that  not everything is bad for everyone & not everything is good for everyone. But do give credit where good credit is due...just sayin' 4951

@FoFa:   Unfortunately, we are already more of a republic than a democracy.  I understood the need for an Electoral College back when many people couldn't read and communication was limited.  However, every US citizen now has the ability to learn about presidential candidates, yet the popular vote of the citizens still does not elect the president, the Electoral College does.
