I hate paying an arm and a leg for an oil change!  Wish i could do it myself.  Is there a place besides Jiffy Lube and those other places that is a little more reasonable? Thanks!  Trying to save some money... 4951

all lube shops are like that and it's because of a few reasons.

1. they are in business to make money. there is very little profit from a simple oil change.

2. that's how they show you that they are truely inspecting your vehicle and if something looks bad to them they should let you know.

3. they are simply going off of manufacturer recommendations.

They actually aren't going only off of manufacturer recommendations....they try to "upsell" stuff to you - just like any other business would.  A clothing store may try to sell you a belt to go with the new pants, or something like that.  I replace my own air filter, and EVERY time I go to one of those places, they try to sell me a new one - even if I just put one in the last oil change and it is not bad off at all.  And, the unfortunate thing, is that most women do not know much about cars or the maintenance, so many places also "prey" on that as well.  BUT, I still will go to them for an oil change at times, b/c of convenience.  lol.... 4951

@squirtismyboy: Really, cuz it still runs you 35.00 for a few quarts of oil. I'm thinking they made alittle money any how...And the upselling thing is totally annoying. I just don't go there any more. I either have my mechanic do it when it's time for other stuff or go somewhere where they don't screw with me.I just looove seeing them come toward me with the little clip board and two leaves in their hands that they will say totally polluted my air filter! LOL.

I always get my oil changed at the Honda dealer. That way, it's on their records and if there is a problem at all, they immediately take care of it. For 30 to 35 dollars, it is worth it.  Besides, where would you dispose of the old oil if you did it yourself? Nowadays, they recommend changing the oil from 5000 to 7000 miles in some cars - so maybe you do it 2 or 3 times a year at best. 4951

i like to browse mylitter.com/She had an idea to print this coupon from ntb and see if you can "price match" at walmart www.commonsensewithm oney.com/2011/05/pay -just-9-99-for-an-oi l-changetire-ro guess you could also get it done at ntb but I heard ( from someone) they were not good because they didn't do a tire rotation correctly. 4951

The $100 dollar oil changes are worth the money if it is synthetic oil. Synthetic oil last about 3 times longer than conventional oil. Three oil changes at $30=$90. Plus you dont have to make 3 separate trips to get the oil changed.

And synthetic oil is much better for you engine. 4951
