Exactly. Plus the overhang of the oaks makes that part of WLH very shady, hard to see walkers let alone bikers.

If that is the case, and you know it is the case, then you have violated the Basic Speed Law which states, "No peson shall drive a vehilce at a speed greater than is reasonable and prudent under the circimstances or under the conditions then existing or under the conditions and having regard to actual and potention hazards (Transportation Code Sec 545.351)."
Â
You know that the trees make that portion of the road shady and makes it hard to see cyclists and pedestrians, it is your responsibility to slow down. As an extreme analogy, consider if you are on the freeway with a 65 mph speed limit. But, you become aware of school kids playing on the roadway. You cant use the fact that you had the right of way and the 65 mph speed limit as a defense why you didnt slow down or stop.
Â
I find it ironic that you say you cant slow down on WLHP because someone will run into the back of you, thereby declaring WLHP unsafe, but you consider perfectly reasonable for a bike to be on WLHP.
Â
Slow down. Be careful. Wave back to the mean cyclist with all 5 fingers.
