So this is our third summer in this home.    The AC unit is 8 years old.    Every summer when it gets to 90 and above we can not get our homes temperature under 78 in the day.    The first year we put up with it just having bought the house.   Last summer we called out two AC guys.   The first one said he could find nothing wrong and put in coolant.   A month later and it was still not cooling properly.   The second guy came and we had no coolant so he  put in coolant and a stopper to plug any small leaks we might have.   Two weeks later and still no help.   So the second guy comes back and  we had not lost any coolant so he puts in a neon glow fluid to detect any leaks.  After 2 days at our home looking for a leak he doesn't find anything.   The coolant is filled, our duct work is sealed and the AC unit shows nothing wrong with it.    So this summer we decide to get a radiant barrier installed in the attic and some window film on the windows in the large open kit/living/dinning area bc it get the warmest.    The film is definitely helping and our attic is nice and cool but today's temp of 89 and our home is sitting at 77 and won't get any cooler.    So we can have some one come out and look to see if we have coolant again. Any ideas or good AC guy suggestions?     It ticks me off that the people who sold this home must have known about this issue.  They had to at least be home sometimes on the weekends and noticed.   4951

You can call my brother Jeff @ 713-398-7523. He does a/c work, he is honest and does good work.

Sounds like your a/c tonnage may be too small for your home. I have a 3 ton unit, and my house doesn't cool real well either. I need a 4 ton. Give him a call, he will let you know what's going on. 4951

Yes..  our unit is slightly undersized.   We need a half size (0.5 ton) up is what I was told.   I was also told that it should not be making that big a difference though and to be careful because if we go up more than a half size we could have problems with it not staying on.    4951

LOL.  It isn't an insulation issue.   We got plenty and had some blown in when we got the radiant barrier.  Our home is an energy star home with double windows.   Something has to be wrong with the AC.  4951

@DiverDude: I could just ship the kid off to the grandparents for the summer and we could walk around naked.
