I agree. Animals have souls just like every human being. They should not be treated in this manner.

A couple years ago, my cat was killed after secretly running after me during a jog. A car hit him. At the moment when it happened, I saw his bright soul. And when his soul embraced me and went through me, all time slowed down and then stopped. The cars weren't moving anymore as well as people who were walking. Sound stopped. The soul of my cat, who was passing on, wanted to show me another dimension. It was beautiful. Then my cat's soul fly towards the sun and disappeared.

That's the moment I came to a realization that all animals have souls too. Now I'm a vegetarian. I don't eat any flesh. 4951

Why? Oh, I'd love for them all to be worth big bucks and be adopted into the good life, but  there are way too many animals and not enough homes. If giving them away secures them a home, I don't see anything wrong with it. 4951

I know Fallon- we have 2 throwaway labs and some kind of mix that we got from the shelter. They're just wonderful dogs- their owners really missed out on some lovely times. The labs are complete couch potatoes and the mix forced me to get into running to meet his exercise needs. Dh got inspired and is training for his first marathon- because of a dog 4951

I think that Burnsaway is just fed up with people getting pets THEN deciding oh, I can't take care of this.   Getting a pet isn't like getting a pair of shoes.     But some folks act before they think.   Pets take space, time, and money.  I still don't know why people do not know this before they get a pet.You see so many people get labs, then can't handle the chewing, the digging, etc.  The people do not bother to research what they are getting into.  Labs in particular, are people dogs.  If they are left outside they are going to be destructive.  They are puppies for 2 years and are flat out destructive during this time.  But by year 3 and on they are the best pets everEmoticon  But if you leave a lab outside and not have them around you, they do get bored and dig.  Then you see an ad, how wants a free dog?  UGH.Same thing with bunnies.  I rescued one, and you would not believe the folks who have to have one for their child at Easter, only to realize, oh no, this animal has got to go.  Bunnies are not pets to have around small children.  THey are like cats, sweet only when they want to be.  We love ours, but we knew what we were getting into.  And if we didn't know, we would suck it up and deal with it.  Not get rid of it.

@Fallon: Yep ...:-) Animals are not humans but they are not free boxes and trash to just swing by and get free by a complete stranger either. Also I was speaking of the forums classifieds, I don't read the paper. There are a ton of them under wanted then free! I wonder if people are even aware that dog fighters love the free Doggies sections for bait dogs and cats are used often in cults.

I honestly don't think the people who give them away really care where they go as long as they don't have to deal with them anymore.  Someone has a free give away 3 yr old female boxer on KW.com pets and they want to get rid of her so she will have a good yard to run in.  I tried to tell them that the only thing the dog cares about is the love of her family.  No response! 4951

And yet people complain about rescues and ethical breeders being too strict and invasive about applications and who they give dogs and puppies too.

If only ethical/responsible breeders were allowed to breed, I'd be able to quit rescue because they would only sell to people who have researched the hell out of the breed and fully understand what they are getting into, plus they place pet quality dogs on spay and neuter contracts. This would fix everything. There would be no idiots buying dogs only to let them roam loose or give them up, or breed them. With no stray dogs or unethical breeding there would be no more mutts or poorly bred dogs out there watering down breeds and creating this overpopulation crisis. There would be no need for shelters because there would be no more backyard breeders.

I can handle seeing a few, things do happen and I undestand sometimes circumstances replace what you really want and sometimes people giving dogs away do try for better homes and check backgrounds and stuff but 30 ads in 2 months on ONE SINGLE forum of area classified...that is ridiculousness! You have to click wanted then free to see them all. They don't show when you just click wanted.  That volume of unwanted animals is not an occasional crisis situation. Thats an epidemic of irresponsibility!  4951

I guess I don't see how someone with a boxer or any other pet could let their baby go,  She said the puppy is housebroken, crate trained, good with kids and other animals so what more could you want.  My 3 make us feel guilty when we leave them to go somewhere to the point we apologize to them for leaving.  She said this puppy needed a bigger yard to run in but that is an excuse.  What the puppy needs is her family!  We adopted our 3rd when she was 8 mos and the lady didn't even look back when we picked her up.  She was going to take her to a shelter! 4951

The Shiba Inu that we just adopted was in a situation where the family was moving and couldn't take him with them.....it happens, however, the former owner was quite thorough choosing a new family, and she chose me because I have owned the breed before, and am aware that they are quite strange dogs.  A lot of people contacted her saying they wanted to dog really bad, and when she asked them if they liked cats, they thought it was a strange question and said, "No, I can't stand cats", to which she replied then, this isn't the dog for you (since they are a very cat-like breed).
I am sure that it was not something they wanted to do, as they got this dog as a puppy, paid a lot of money for him, had him shipped from Washington state, took him to the vet regularly, socialized and trained him, neutered him, only fed him all natural dog foods, etc.
Sometimes people end up in a situation where they just can't take the pet with them, or it is in the best interest of the animal to be re-homed.  I think if the owner takes the time to interview multiple people, checks out the prospective new owner's home, etc. and really takes the time to ensure that their pet will be going to a good place, then they are doing the right thing.  Too many people take the easy way out by dumping their pets out in the middle of nowhere, dumping them off at the vets, or just giving them to the first person that shows interest.
I have been in a situation where I have had to give up a dog due to certain circumstances  but I took a lot of time to find the right home, visited the new owner's home, saw how the family interacted with the dog, etc.  I found the perfect fit, and I still get updates on how he is doing, and it was a happy ending for everyone involved.  I hate that I had to do that, but I am glad that I was able to help somebody out that was in a difficult situation.  The dog is a great match for us, and fits in well with the family and he will definitely have a great new life with us.
