Y'all need to take care of the trees you have. Every time I roll through Kingwood during or after a storm, I'm scared a tree is going to fall on me, or my car, which has happened for some KDC members. Y'all lose electricity all of the time; and, there's an unmaintained area that several members have complained, block the sight of an intersection.

The City of Houston is responsible for removing dangerous trees from the medians. Trees for Kingwood regularly reports such trees to the City. Council Members Fred Flickinger and Twila Carter have been spending monet from their City accounts to cut vegetation and dangerous trees back from the streets. Trees for Kingwood cosponsors the Median Madness events that Council Member Flickinger sponsors. Trees for Kingwood is a non-profit, all volunteer organizations. If you are scared of a tree falling onto you car, you can join the effort to address the issue you are concerned about. It certainly doesn't help us secure additional volunteers to address the
issue that scares you when you criticize the folks who do volunteer.

What a great cause! Thank you for posting. You can get a great meal with some delicious rolls with honey better and help out a good cause.

CBloch : You're asking me to address the issues, but also claim I'm criticizing, when I pass along complaints from this very forum. I have seen the Moms and Teens clean up trees around KHS. There is a group of kids that cleans along the Greenbelt. There are several individuals who try to cutback vegetation at the hazardous intersection; yet, my concern for the overall welfare of the community has seemed to encounter the blind/deaf. Now, I see why residents have such a hard time getting results when they do the very thing you've outlined in your post above. If you're solution is to add more trees to an already problematic situation, you go ahead and knock yourself out. My stance will remain.

Are they going to plant any trees in the green belts by chance?The green belt across from the Greentree Swimming Pool was decimated by the HOA removing almost all vegetation including large trees.
I was told this was done under the guise of removing dead trees damaged by Beryl. However almost every tree was removed damaged or not.

To date the Greentree HOA has not participated in the City of Houston Matching Grant Program. If the Greentree HOA wants to clear dead trees and brush and plant new trees, they can apply for a City Matching Grant. The City will match up to $5,000 of expenditures by an HOA to improve the appearance and forestation of spaces open to the public. You can't get a Matching Grant to improve a non-public area, for example work inside a neighborhood pool where entry is limited to only neighborhood residents. But improvements to the grounds outside of the pool that are accessible by any Houston resident are qualified. Get with your HOA and see if they will apply. They can contact me and I can help them with the application process. They need to get some paperwork filed before the end of the month.

Go to the Trees for Kingwood website and leave a message. We aren't doing much in August and September as it is too hot. But we will start again in October.

The Moms and Teens you mentioned is a group called the Young Mens Service league. There is a Kingwood High School chapter of this National Organization. If you look at the entry to Kingwood High School you will se a number of newly planted trees and a number of bushes. In addition to working on the clearing of the medians, they also help plant these new trees. They did this working with Council Member Flickinger and the Trees for Kingwood Organization. The other Group of High School Students you mentioned is the Greenbelt Guardians. Trees for Kingwood also works with these young Kingwood students. They have been a big help. When both groups worked on cutting back the vegetation near Kingwood Drive, including dead trees and limbs during one of Council Member Flickinger's Median Madness events, the Mayor of Houston came out to help. The attached picture shows the Mayor and Council Member Twila Carter working on the Kingwood Drive median in front of Kingwood High School. I am not sure I understand your position. Are you against all trees? There is a difference between dead/unhealthy trees and healthy trees properly trimmed back from the street.
