I10 closure - fatal crash Jesus this is bad. 🚨 FATAL FREEWAY CRASH 🚨 🚧 Location: I-10 East and West near Lockwood Dr 🚧 Man dead, woman injured after wrong-way crash on East Freeway at Lockwood Multiple westbound lanes are shut down while crews work to clear the scene HOUSTON - Houston police are investigating a deadly wrong-way crash that shut down part of the East Freeway Tuesday morning near Lockwood Drive. According to HPD, a Kia sedan was traveling westbound on the East Freeway when it was struck head-on by an Acura sports car that was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes at a high rate of speed. Police said the crash may be connected to an earlier call about a wrong-way driver reported on U.S. 59 near Minute Maid Park. Investigators believe the timing and description of the vehicle match. A TxDOT road crew working nearby witnessed the crash. Officers and workers told police the Acura slammed into the Kia, causing the Acura to break apart and catch fire. The male driver of the Acura became trapped inside the vehicle. When Houston firefighters arrived, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators said the Acura did not have a license plate, and no one on scene was able to identify the driver. The vehicle will be taken to an impound lot so investigators can pull the VIN to determine ownership. The female driver of the Kia suffered serious injuries and was unconscious at the scene. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Due to the severity of the crash, the Harris County Medical Examiner was called to the scene. HPD said the freeway is expected to remain closed for several hours. StormChaser : These wrong way crashes are often fatal, and puzzling as to how people get on our freeways going in the wrong direction (often intoxicated drivers). So many times the person driving the correct way ends up a victim. I sure hope the lady makes it.
