Water Service Line "Unknown Material " Letter from COH

Just curious on others thoughts.

This letter recently came from the City of Houston. I would think they could identify what was installed and when.

We get letters on a regular basis (and have for years) trying to sell gas and water line "insurance ".

Do you think it's another scare tactic to frighten voters into approving more money for "infrastructure " upgrades?
They've already uncovered money that city water officials misappropriated. Is this a way to recoup from taxpayers as opposed to the shady contractors?

PlaneCrazy : What I don't get is what they want us to do about it saying to hire a plumber to tell us what material is the line made of... shouldn't it be some kind of record keeping in what was used in these lines ...? Seriously? Is there anything else we don't need to pay for?

acteon :
Exactly, it's very strange they want us to identify this for them.

We had a property in Denver near Cap Hill. The city had an online map residents could access that showed all the arteries. Which were lead, galvanized contaminated, which were good, which were replaced and what was in work.
The residents that were affected received water filters free of charge until the lines were replaced.

PlaneCrazy : I think we should ask the City to do something and those who are in danger to actually have led contamination have some kind of inspection on the line and fix it or replace it free of charge as those people were not told about this when they purchased their homes or warned that this is a possibility... something has to be done and residents should not be expected to do this on their own ...
