Very few things trigger me more than someone attempting to "upsell" me. Had a new AC recently installed. I went with the only 1 out of 3 sales person estimates that didn't try to upsell me. He actually seemed to have my best interest in mind. Upselling at the Vet office is the worst. I won't name offices, but I've had several in Kingwood that started making it a routine practice. Offering needless diagnostics that an experienced pet owner knows are excessive. I can only assume they're trained by Office Managers to do it. They know we'll do anything for our furry friends, so it feels opportunistic to me. If you have a vet that DOES NOT do this, they're a keeper. Anyone else feel the upselling at the vet office?

cbear : Very much so. We go to VCA Kingwood, and they're great. Never felt it there. But sometimes appointment availability forces a trip elsewhere and I immediately notice the practice.

Im another fan of Animal Care Center of Lake Houston. Vet owned and they are great at diagnostics without a lot if unnecessary labs and tests
Fanofdogs : VCA charged me $1960 for a dental on a 4 and a half pound Chihuahua when I was originally quoted $400-$700. She had one molar removed. The vet practice that comes in second place for upselling was the one n North Park ( think they recently changed owners. A five pound Chihuahua in for spay ran up a bill just under $2000. All kinds of "add ins" on the initial visit.
Doddlebug50 : Ugh. That's not good. We've had great experiences there the last 3 years. But as you said, these places do change ownership and management. Prices and practices can change overnight, for the good or bad.
Fanofdogs : That happened to us during the last moments of the wifeys cat. This is local vet. Once I found out what was going on, I immediately stop the clipboard upgrade checklist and kicked them out.
