Wallpaper, Everywhere. Remember?

My second home was built during the wall paper craze! Kitchen, bathrooms and entry way! What were we thinking? 😂 lol

I saw this guy, in the pic, on tv just now, and it made me think of Allll of the wallpaper back in the day. I almost think the octo on the wall behind him is paper Made for him, as it kinda Resembles him, in a cute way? We spent Weeks taking wallpaper off of almost Every wall in a 4 story, 85 year old, really cool home in NY. So worth it, but SO much work!

Yes mam, I remember and was part of the craze. The house I lived in during that period had wallpaper or custom paneling in every room along with custom drapes. That was just after the avocado and gold appliance craze.

vinegar and water in a spray bottle works well. It smells strong, but what trickles down cleans the baseboards, and when it dries, the smell goes away. Some of the walls in our home in NY had Three layers of wallpaper; they just papered Over paper, and so on! :0 I can remember being overwhelmed and deciding on a 'number' of books to look at, and then be Done. Decide and buy!

They make wallpaper that is peel and stick. I am assuming it is the new trend. They have some beautiful papers and makes me tempted to do book shelfs and dining room. Look at Painted Paper for some beautiful looks. Paintedpaper.com

When we bought our home here the two upstairs bathrooms still had the original 1974 wallpaper. One was oversized wavy plaid, the other black antique cars on metallic silver. Needless to say, getting those off was one of our first priorities!

LittleTexas : That looks like squid! We had very little wallpaper. It was just in the entryway on a small area of the staircase and one wall of the formal dining area. It was off white with off white flowers. When I stepped back, it looked like "Arthur's" grandmother. Hahahaha!

LittleTexas : Our first two little girls shared a bedroom. We put Hollie Hobbie wallpaper on the walls of their room and they loved it. Each had a large, soft Hollie Hobbie doll to play with and to rest on the pillows of their beds. Later we sold that house and moved. I hope the new owners liked the Hollie Hobbie wallpaper.

Thanks to this thread I just ordered some for livingroom bookshelf. I have been staring at it for years thinking it needs to lighten up. Now I know what it needs. 🤞i wont screw it up.

Smoothwaters : We put a soft tan-green grasscloth wallpaper on one wall of our living room, several houses ago. I thought it went very well there.

LittleTexas : we bought our house from the original owners who'd designed the entire house. Special everything, from window sizes, wall heights, layout - everything is different than other houses in the area. When we bought it, there was wallpaper in all bathrooms, the dining room and accent walls in the bedrooms. I hated all of it. Getting it off the walls was a nightmare. We ended up having to tear out several walls and sheetrock new walls. I vowed then, I will never have wallpaper in any room of any house I own. Paint is easier and more versatile.

They did the same thing at our house! We bought a 12 room house, and 9 of the rooms had wallpaper in them! 😵‍💫
