Shot in the dark anyone here live on the 3rd floor at The Rese

radiogirl30 : From my son's experience recently in college, he has found that top floor apartments generally stay warmer than others (at least no one living upstairs making noise). He just recently moved into a new apartment in the TMC area and the warmth of the top floor apartments was a concern. He ended up with a 3rd floor (total 6 floors) and his place stays very cool. Also consider if the apartment is in line of direct sunlight throughout the day through the windows and/or patio doors. That is most of the sun heat would penetrate.

Not there, but at my last place I was downstairs. When the power went out during Beryl, my apartment stayed in the 80's until Friday when I left. My neighbors above me hit 95 by Wed. It makes a huge difference in your bill. You can probably keep it cool but it will cost you. Have you looked at the reviews for that complex? When I looked last year, there were some that were very concerning. They also have very little closet space.

The AC will run non stop there. I was on the first floor there and that AC ran 24/7 for the 3rd floor apt

A lot of this depends on when the apartments were built if they were built in the last 5 to 7 years, they have gone a long way to insulate. My sister-in-law recently moved to a third floor apartment in Houston. When we go visit her, her air is on 75° but with the overhead fans on it feels more like 72 or less, very comfortable!! She also keeps her shades, tilted or drawn for most of the day, but will open them early in the morning and then at about sunset and has had no problem with reasonable bills. Her complex is 4 years old.

My DS split a 3 BR on the 3rd floor in college and their bill was ridiculous. It was such a small place and never had a bill under $300. The AC units were so old and they wouldn't do anything about it. It was always hot too. They also spilt a 4br with loft and much bigger their bills were much less. It is comparable to KW water bills no rhyme or reason. My DS that is still in college that was the first thing I looked at was how new the AC unit was.

I gave up on 2nd floor or top floor apartments and went down to first floor for cooler temps.

Top level will be more expensive to cool than lower levels as the top level serves as insulation for lower levels. Orientation is important as well. West facing windows increase cooling costs.
