At our school special needs students usually have an assigned aid that's stays with them through out the day 😕 very scary situation and I can imagine parents emotions right now are all over

Donnawisdom : a co-workers children go to this school. He said that the student was in kindergarten, so 5 to 6 years old.

DS did that one time! At recess- just walked off 🙄. The school called in a panic - they were pooping their pants! I think they thought i was going to raise heck. By the time I got there he had wandered back. He got in trouble with the school and with me! They asked how could I be so calm- i laughed and said " the stories i could tell-"
I know it is very dangerous and im glad the little girl is ok! My Ds taught me to be calm in situations because it was a daily occurrence with him. As Jimmy Buffet used to sing "if we couldnt laugh we would all go insane!"

Years ago, I was at Sonic and notice a kid about 6-7 walking past and no one was by him so I figured they were trailing behind. My order came and forgot to look. I turned down WLH heading toward KW Dr and notice the kid right before Creekwood Middle. By the way he was walking I knew he was Autistic so pulled over to ask him where he was going but he was non verbal. I was scared he would take off and run into traffic when I approached. I called HPD KW and they asked if I could bring him to them. Ok? Come to find out the kid walked out of Hidden Hallow Elementary a mile away. How did he cross NP and all cross streets and no one stopped to help him. The school, police or parents never contacted me. Heads would be rolling at that school.

At least he's safe, better than wandering the streets in this heat.

Holy cow that is a very young child to get displaced. I would be in a total panic!

That is scary. Special needs children sometimes have uncanny abilities. A relative who was living in the northeast was awakened one morning by a neighbor who saw her preschool special needs child out playing in the snow totally undressed. She somehow unlocked a door and got outside. It is impossible to have your eyes on them 24/7.
