Is it really worth it? I went to a fancy steak house last week, while it was good and service was outstanding, I'm not sure the meal was worth the $100 price tag. I have enjoyed similar meals for far less. A steak is a steak if prepared well.

Txbutterfly : It's all about the shiny and new. We learned that just a few days ago on another thread. Nevermind if the food is outstanding and you enjoy the place. Gotta be new, hip, bright, shiny, pretty and press-worthy.

I agree. I keep trying elevated steak houses to find out what makes a perfect steak. I'm more often disappointed with high end steakhouses than any other high end restaurant I go to. Most of the time I'm disappointed I didn't cook it myself. I'm content using the sous vide technique to get a steak to proper temperature, and then using either a charcoal chimney or a blowtorch to seer it.I'll still go to high end steakhouses with friends (and won't complain). But I enjoy more creative menus than the same standard steakhouse menus.

I'll take a porterhouse steak any day over those fancy cuts.

I enjoy high end steakhouses and restaurants. The longstanding ones have typically been in business for a reason. Good service, ambiance, overall good experience, and most importantly great food. I just looked up google images and a menu for "Michael Mina Bourbon Steak restaurant" and it definitely looks nice. I'll report back to KDC with a review once I go after it opens.

Spork : Give me a Houston area run-down.... best steakhouse, best value, best regardless of price etc. Parents are in town, wife and I are going to sneak out for a dinner.

I have heard great things about taste of Texas but I have yet to go. Rainbow room is awesome for ambiance and things other than steaks if your guests want to try other things. Both are pricey. Prime 131 is incredible, but gonna drop $$$. Close to home and not as expensive, Texas roadhouse does a good steak if you order handcut and don't want it well done. Anyone ordering a nice steak well done needs to have it smacked across their head IMO 😀
