New state hail record Holy Hail! 😮 That would definitely leave a mark! A new state hail record has been set for Texas - 7.25" INCH diameter stones (pineapples!) were collected by meteorologist Val Castor on Sunday 06/03/24 - 3 miles WNW of Vigo Park, Texas. These guys fall at a rate of 70-90 mph! The stones were immediately put on ice and were sent to The National Weather Service for analysis. They were described as "7x5" solid pieces of ice" and luckily they fell in a rather rural area! (Population: 30) This beats the previous record of 6.4" in Hondo, TX in 2021. 6/2/24: 3 miles WNW of Vigo Park, TX . These are the types of stones that kill people. Though rare, 2-3 people die every year in the US from getting hit in the head by large hail.

Oh my gosh! That is INSANE! I wonder how many times that got thrown back up in the atmosphere to freeze and refreeze before finally making it to the ground!

Yes it does. Probably hundreds if not thousands of times. So it can freeze and refreeze.
Between AMA and LUB. I've driven I-27 many times (and got a few speeding tickets along the way). The wind blows off the high planes and makes for nasty weather.
CaffeineFree : That's the only area of Texas I'm not familiar with!
