Auto theft at Fitness Project.
My car was broken into yesterday morning at Fitness Project on Northpark, along with another vehicle at the same time. I just wanted to make it known that there are multiple cameras posted on the front of that building and none will be pulled to view the suspects. They were clearly watching me because I got a fraud text from my bank about 20 minutes after I entered the gym. HPD came and took a statement, gave me a small piece of paper with an incident number on it. No pictures were taken (except by me), I wasn't given a phone number or email to contact the officer if I had any questions. That was it. I called the HPD non emergency number this morning to get any updates and I was informed HPD is not pulling the cameras, as it is not their responsibility. Yet, the gym says it has to requested by HPD and then they will allow it to be viewed. No problem.
So what exactly is HPD's job? Did I need to be kidnapped or murdered for them to pull cameras and see who these worthless people are that robbed 2 people? This is why crime continues to happen in Kingwood. Nothing is done. What is considered a "petty crime" to them? Doesn't need to be a dollar value? I bet they did over $5000 worth of damage to my car. HPD was absolutely useless. And we want to give them raises but not HFD? HFD has to respond and help everyone, regardless of the situation. It's their job. Whether it's not a big deal or it's is a building or house on fire, they respond and sacrifice themselves for us. HPD- if it's not important, it's pushed under the rug. I pray next time this happens, it's not a worse situation since the criminals are still running the streets and the people that are supposed to "serve and protect", don't. Keep your doors locked and be aware of your surroundings. I wasn't as aware as I should've been and now I'm devastated. Lesson learned. Good luck to all of us.

bcassidy : I'm so sorry you're going through this. Crime has gone up in our area. I didn't even know there was a fitness place on North Park.

I am also so sorry you are going through this. I get panicky when I think of situations where I would need a police officer because of stories like yours. It's not right!!! I don't understand it all.

sweetie : It's been there forever. It used to be Gold's Gym before Fitness Project. It's in the same strip as J. Christopher.

Right. Have your car broke into and destroyed and tell me it's "small potatoes". $8000 in damage, not to mention what they took, is not small potatoes. I'm sorry I wasn't killed or kidnapped, because only then it would be important to you.

I don't expect the gym to let you look at the camera footage. I expect they would want to look to protect the business and customers.

teatime :
It was around 1045am. I have a brand new car so I parked at the end of the aisle to avoid someone dinging my car.
The gym didn't mind giving video surveillance up, but HPD has to request it first and they won't. Not a priority.

You would think that, but HPD won't request it. So they're going to just keep doing it.

Sorry to hear this. I've learned that those security cameras installed in parking lots are not really there for your personal /or vehicles safety they are for the stores safety and insurance purposes. Unless a major crime has been committed of course.

Im sorry this happened to you. I used to teach there- the break ins have been happening in that parking lot forever! The cars are an easy target as thieves will sit and watch and then make an easy get away on Northpark. Day, night it doesnt matter. I understand your frustration and i am sorry. I know the gym used to have signs at the front door, desk and locker rooms warning about car break ins- but i dont know if they still do. I remember some guy got a gun stolen out of his truck( you cant take a gun into the gym)
