Miss Fergie is almost ready for her forever home!!

Fergie was caught in someone’s chicken coupe about 6 weeks ago. She was so skinny you could feel every bone in her body, which was most likely due to the severe internal parasite infection she was battling. However, she is doing so much better now!

Fergie is very timid and it takes a few days for her to warm up to new people. She would do best in a quiet home with no small children. However, once she warms up to you, all she wants to do is cuddle in your lap! She is the true definition of a lap dog! She also has a very sassy attitude that only comes out once she is comfortable 😊

Breed: Long Hair Chihuahua/Min Pin Mix

Age: Roughly 4 years

Weight: 6 pounds

Health:

Up to date on shots. Microchipped. Heartworm Negative. Dewormed. Up to date on Heartworm/flea prevention. Scheduled to be spayed on Nov. 29th.

Health issues:

She does have a very prominent over bite. This shouldn’t cause any major issues, but should be monitored.

She does have a heart murmur. This is very common in small dogs, and is usually not a major issue. Currently the Vet does not think she needs to be on medication. She needs a check up again in 3 months, and another one in 6 months. If the heart murmur stays the same, then medication is not necessary. If it starts to get worse, she would need to start medication to help the issue.

(If you have any questions about this and the cost of medication I would be more than happy to answer your questions! I have a chihuahua that has had a heart murmur his entire life and he is currently 16 years old!)

Behavior:

Extremely timid until she warms up to you
Not good with small children
Good with cats
Good with other low-energy dogs (High-Energy dogs would freak her out)
Crate trained
Still working on potty training
Calm, quiet, low energy
LOVES to cuddle! She loves to get cozy under the blankets!
Sassy attitude! Emoticon

It is with a very heavy heart that I am not able to keep her. She has completely stolen my heart! However, with 3 other dogs and 2 cats, I don’t think I am ready for the commitment of another dog. When I got her she was in terrible shape, and I wanted to make sure she was completely healthy and vetted before finding her forever home. I believe she would do best in a home with maybe an older couple or someone who’s kids have moved out. A quiet home, as she is very timid. She does have a very cute personality once she warms up to you though! I would also love to stay in touch with her adopter and get updates every now and then ❤️

I am only asking for a $75 adoption fee to help repay some of the vetting expenses and allow me to help the next dog in need. She will come with all of her Vet records.

So ya selling her, just be honest about it.

What you choose to spend money on doesnt change this. It is a simple selling. You are not adopting, you are selling.

I took care of all of her vetting. The $75 does not cover all of that. It’s very normal to ask for an adoption fee. I’m in no way making a profit. This just helps me be able to take in the next doggie that might need help without going into debt. It is also helpful to ask for a fee, as it is never a good idea to just give away a dog for free on the Internet. Someone with bad intentions may take the dog, or someone may take a free dog on impulse without thinking about the commitment they are making.

The shelter charges $50, rescue groups charge $100-$200, I feel $75 is reasonable.

What difference would it make if she was with a rescue, that would have done the exact same thing I’ve done, and then adopted her out?

To me, selling implies I’m making a profit, which is not true. I’m sorry if that’s how you feel.

The main thing is that you have done right by this little being.....the cost is very reasonable considering restoring her health and vet care.  You are a very special person and that is a very special little dog.  My daughter in Rice Village has a friend in Houston who has a rescue.  I will tell her to tell him about her and he can contact you. 4951

@doddlebug:

Thank you! I’ve already contacted Pawsitive Connections and they are willing to help if I’m unable to find an adopter on my own. I was hoping to find a local adopter, or someone willing to send me updates. I don’t mind fostering her for as long as needed. She gets along with my other dogs, so that makes it a lot easier. 4951

Yes charging a fee is better than giving the dog away. Thanks for helping the doggie out. Hopefully she finds a home quickly. She's so cute. 4951

@kymlynng@stealth83Damned if you do damned if you don't.  I was trying to rehome a stray mother cat after her kittens were weaned.  I paid for her spay surgery and wanted to give her away.  I posted her on Craigslist and was flagged for not asking for money.  I love cats!  I have had many cats in my life and have NEVER paid money to get one.  I reposted on another site asking for an adoption fee and was contacted by a family wanting her.  When the family came to see her, they didn't bring the money and said they would be back.  After spending some time getting to know the family and seeing that they seemed to be loving and kind, I told them to take her and that I wasn't planning to accept money anyway.  Did it cost money for me to foster?  Yes, but I thought of it was a labor of love and it was a heck of a lot cheaper than the vet bills incurred above.I hope Fergie finds a family soon! 4951

Recouping your cost for veterinary care, isn't really selling something for profit. It also helps weed out of the people who wouldn't take owning the pet seriously or someone that may have nefarious intentions.

Pet rescue groups run mainly on donations and fosters, it really isn't a very lucrative business, it's a labor of love.

Why try to make this an ugly situation with negative posts?

To Kym, thank you for helping this baby dog. I hope you find her the best home! 4951

@EleanorRigby:  You are exactly right.  Serious pet owners realize how much it costs to get a dog to where this one is now.  The "fee" will automatically remove the folks that probably shouldn't own a pet anyway. 4951

Charging some for the dog also keeps people who shouldn’t have a dog getting her. I know it’s a bad thing to say but it’s true! If you can’t afford the $75 you won’t be able to care for a dog. 4951
