Officials are overwhelmed at the number of people turning out at the DSNAP centers for disaster related assistance for food stamps.
Gee, you hang out a sign that says free money, you have no verification process in place, what the hell do you think is going to happen?

So if you want to thin out the lines, make these 4 signs:

1- Job Applications and Placement
2- Warrant Checks
3- Immigration Checks
4- Paternity Tests..

Lines will then out fast 4951

Maybe I should convince my employer to let me drive in the company vehicle and #3 will be handled. 4951

That was a 2mile long line yesterday at Duessin Park. I hope it was worth the wait for those people.

@SwaggyG:

That’s why I’m curious as to how much money they’re getting - waiting 6 hours is a long time 4951

@theplaceboutique: It has happened before. We took a person to the hospital and once we arrived people in the ER waiting rooms were leaving fast and the nurses were complaining our presence scared them.

They already do #1. When my son was receiving SNAP he had to reapply every month and show proof of employment/ or job searches 4951

LMAO.., I remember in the mid 1980's I was patrolling here in Kingwood and INS asked is to accompany them into what is now Mills Branch.

I was behind an INS bus, when that bus turned the corner it looked like fleas jumping off a dog!!

Same happening here. No real cover for anyone in the parking lot. One very old man said he had to leave the day before due to heat.
Please do not judge those looking for help, it only further stigmatizes and those really needing it won't go.
Here in Florida they are helping anyone that had an income loss, food loss, etc.
We are eligible for wages lost. We chose not to take the help because, well we're just sucking it up and working extra.
Yes you will always have those that take advantage.
It's a waste of time and money to warrent check, drug test etc.
A one time help and then go.
Btw I saw the cars at the fairgrounds. That's a lot of people without transportation to jobs.
Just because your water is gone doesn't mean other's are not still struggling.
Some areas here have not had adjustors out yet do to laying water. Every rain pushes it back in.

There were 180,000 homes affected.
One DNAP benefit per household.
600,000 DSNAP benefits distributed.

Just wee bit of fraud going on 4951

You can qualify for DSNAP if you lost your job because of Harvey, whether or not your home was damaged. So if I worked for a business that was destroyed in Kingwood and I am not working because of it, I would qualify even though my home was not damaged.Have experienced a loss of income, destruction of your home or a disaster-related expense, such as temporary shelter or home repairs. There probably is fraud, but it can't be assumed just from the number of homes damaged. 4951
